PORTOLAC POWDER FOR ORAL SOLUTION

DETOXIFIER WITH ANTI-HYPERAMMONEMIC ACTIVITY

Portolac EPS is used in the prevention and treatment of subclinical, acute, chronic portosystemic encephalopathy: prophylaxis of pre-coma and hepatic coma. Liver cirrhosis.

Dosage and method of use

The dosage of Portolac EPS must be adjusted to the stage and severity of the disease.
In prevention and in the stabilized phases of the disease, a dosage of 0.3g/kg of body weight per day is sufficient, equal to approximately:
20g of Portolac EPS powder for oral solution (equivalent to 2 sachets of 10g or 4 measuring spoons of 5g of powder).
In the treatment of decompensated and acute phases of the disease, a dosage of 0.4-0.8g/kg of body weight per day is recommended, equal to:
30-60g of Portolac EPS powder for oral solution (equivalent to 3-6 sachets of 10g or 6-12 measuring spoons of 5g of powder).
Portolac EPS powder for oral solution should be dissolved in water or other beverages.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
Contraindicated in breast-fed children

Warnings

It is recommended to use Portolac EPS in the first trimester of pregnancy, only in case of absolute necessity
Although the passage of lactitol into breast milk has not been studied, it seems unlikely that it can have any clinical relevance as it is only minimally absorbed
