Stiticol Tuscopharm is a medical device for the symptomatic treatment of constipation, which promotes peristalsis and prevents the formation of fecal impaction.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of constipation. It promotes peristalsis, helping to ensure adequate intestinal evacuation, thus counteracting constipation and preventing the formation of fecal impaction.
Directions for use and Dosage
Indicated for adults and children aged 12 years and over. Over 12 years: 1 to 4 sachets per day.
The dose should be increased or decreased, depending on the individual response to treatment, to allow regular evacuation of soft stools. The maximum necessary dose does not normally exceed 4 sachets per day. Dissolve the powder in water or other liquid (125 ml per sachet) and take immediately. It is recommended to administer the product in the morning if the minimum dose (1 sachet per day) is required. For larger doses, divide the intake between morning and evening.
If no improvement is noted after 7 days of treatment, consult your doctor.
Interactions
The product may reduce the residence time in the intestine and therefore the absorption of oral medications. It is therefore advisable to consult your doctor if taking oral medications at the same time, which must in any case be administered at least 2 hours apart.
The product may have a potential interaction when used with starch-based food thickeners. Macrogol counteracts the thickening effect of starch, liquefying the preparations that should otherwise remain thick to allow intake by people with swallowing problems.
Warnings
Administration to children must be carried out under the direct supervision of an adult.
Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
Do not use if the package is opened or damaged.
In case of adverse reactions, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children. The expiration date refers to the product when stored correctly.
Contraindications
Do not take Stiticol Powder Sachets in case of:
- known hypersensitivity to one or more components;
- paralytic ileus;
- intestinal perforation, obstruction, or stenosis;
- severe inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, toxic megacolon).
The use of laxatives is contraindicated. Contraindicated in the presence of acute abdominal pain or pain of unknown origin, nausea and vomiting, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, and in cases of severe dehydration.
Side effects
Some gastrointestinal disorders may occur (stomach ache, flatulence, abdominal swelling, nausea, and fecal incontinence). Diarrhea is a secondary effect of taking excessive doses of Stiticol Powder Sachets and is Avoidable by reducing the dose.
Cases of hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash) have been reported rarely following the use of products containing Macrogol. If this occurs, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and heat sources.
Shelf life in unopened packaging: 36 months.
