Indications
Symptomatic treatment of constipation. Powder for oral solution. Acts within 24-72 hours.
Macrogol is an inert, high molecular weight, water-soluble polymer that has the ability to bind to the water used for ingestion, retaining it in the stool. It determines rehydration and softening of the fecal mass and facilitates evacuation.
It accelerates intestinal transit by promoting peristalsis, counteracting constipation and preventing the formation of fecal impactions. It is not absorbed or metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract and does not lead to fluid and electrical imbalances when taken with the indicated dose of liquid.
Components
Macrogol 4,000, sucralose.
Gluten-free.
Directions for use
Use the measuring spoon provided in the package to measure the powder: fill it level and not pressed, then remove the excess product with the blade of a knife.
Adults and children over 12 years of age:
2 to 10 level measuring spoons per day. The dose should be increased or decreased, depending on the individual response to treatment, to allow regular evacuation of soft stools. The maximum necessary dose does not normally exceed 10 measuring spoons per day. Dissolve the powder in water or other liquid (50 ml per scoop) and take immediately. It is recommended to take the product in the morning if you need to take the minimum dose (2 scoops per day). For larger doses, divide the intake between morning and evening. If no improvement is noted after 7 days of treatment, consult your doctor.
Children aged 6 months to 12 years:
- From 6 to 10 kg: 1 level scoop per day;
- From 10 to 15 kg: 1-2 level scoops per day;
- From 16 to 20 kg: 2-3 level scoops per day;
- From 21 to 43 kg: 3-4 level scoops per day.
The dose should be increased or decreased, depending on the individual response to treatment, to allow regular evacuation of soft stools. The maximum dose does not normally exceed 4 scoops per day. It is recommended to administer the product in the morning if 1 scoop per day is required. For larger doses, divide the intake between morning and evening. If no improvement is noted after 7 days of treatment, consult your doctor.
Warnings
Keep out of reach of children. It is recommended to use the product in pediatric age after consulting your doctor. Administration to children must be carried out under the direct supervision of an adult. Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package. Do not use if the package is opened or damaged. The product may reduce the residence time in the intestine and therefore the absorption of oral medications. It is therefore advisable to consult your doctor if taking oral medications at the same time, which must, in any case, be administered at least 2 hours apart. In case of adverse reactions, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor. Do not take in case of:
- Known hypersensitivity to one or more of the following: components;
- Paralytic ileus;
- Intestinal perforation, obstruction, or stenosis;
- Severe inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, toxic megacolon).
The use of laxatives is contraindicated in the presence of acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, and in cases of severe dehydration.
Some gastrointestinal disturbances (stomach ache, flatulence, abdominal swelling, nausea, and fecal incontinence) may occur. Diarrhea is a secondary effect of taking excessive doses of the product and can be avoided by reducing the dose. Rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash) have been reported following the use of products containing macrogol. If this occurs, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and heat sources. Close the container tightly after use. The expiration date refers to the product when stored correctly.
Shelf life for intact packaging: 36 months.
