- Zinc, which participates in the catalytic or regulatory functions of approximately 200 metalloenzymes. Zinc intake, therefore, is useful in all inflammatory joint syndromes, in conjunction with ascorbic acid.
- Vitamin C, the main water-soluble antioxidant, plays an important role in the elimination of free radicals (iNOS – ROS – H2O2), which promote the inflammatory process, as they induce alterations in plasma membranes and promote the release of arachidonic acid. It is also a coenzyme of the prolyl- and lysyl-hydrolase enzymes, essential in the production of collagen and therefore in maintaining the trophism of connective tissues. It is also involved in the biosynthesis of elastin, fibronectin, proteoglycans, and fibrillin. Boswellia (Boswellia serrata), which has anti-inflammatory properties, primarily through various mechanisms of action. The action of the dry extract (phytocomplex) is more effective than the administration of the individual active ingredients. Unlike traditional anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, it does not induce signs of gastric intolerance (in fact, it exhibits a protective effect against peptic ulcers) and does not interfere with platelet aggregation and coagulation. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), an adaptogenic plant, useful in enhancing the body's ability to adapt in stressful situations (increasing resistance to fatigue, hunger, and wakefulness). The observed anti-inflammatory properties appear to be due primarily to the presence of withaferin A. It does not interfere with platelet aggregation and coagulation. coagulation.
