Antiseptic solution for otological use containing chlorhexidine digluconate as a germicide combined with low concentrations of a hypoallergenic and biodegradable surfactant to facilitate the appropriate cleansing action. Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum topical bactericidal antiseptic that is non-absorbable through the skin and non-toxic. The bactericidal activity in aqueous solution, if the concentration is adequate, is rapidly effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and Malassezia. INDICATIONS: For washing and antisepsis of the ears in otitis caused by germs sensitive to chlorhexidine. The 1.5 mg/ml concentration of Chlorhexidine base in Deroxen oto is effective within 15 minutes against the following germs: Malassezia pachydermatis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas eruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, Providencia alcalifaciens. The concentration used is not ototoxic even in the presence of eardrum perforation.
