Special warnings
In asthmatic patients Use with caution. The drug is not recommended for use in women attempting to conceive. Administration should be discontinued in women with fertility problems or who are undergoing fertility investigations. Concomitant use with NSAIDs should be avoided. Undesirable effects can be minimized by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. The use of ibuprofen may be associated with a modestly increased risk of arterial thrombotic events. Elderly patients have an increased frequency of adverse reactions to NSAIDs, which can be fatal. Gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation, which can be fatal, have been reported during treatment; these patients should start treatment on the lowest dose available. Concomitant use of protective agents should be considered for these patients and also for patients taking low-dose aspirin or other drugs that may increase the risk of gastrointestinal events.
If gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration occurs, treatment should be discontinued. It should be administered with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease. Caution is required before initiating treatment in patients with a history of hypertension and/or heart failure. Serious skin reactions, some of them fatal, have been reported: the onset of the reaction occurs in most cases within the first month of treatment. The drug should be discontinued at the first appearance of skin rash, mucosal lesions, or any other sign of hypersensitivity. Contains: sorbitol, Ponceau 4R (E124).
