45% effervescent powder: magnesium hydroxide 45g.

 

Sodium bicarbonate, tartaric acid, sucrose, natural lemon flavor. Mandarin flavor: sodium bicarbonate, tartaric acid, sucrose, natural mandarin flavor.

 

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Laxatives are contraindicated in subjects with acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, intestinal obstruction or stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, severe dehydration. Generally contraindicated during pregnancy. Generally contraindicated in pediatric age. Severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min).

 

Adults: as an antacid 1 teaspoon; as a laxative 1 teaspoon; as a purgative 1 tablespoon. Children. Between 6 and 12 years: half the dose. Dilute the powder in half a glass of water and swallow. The correct dose is the minimum sufficient to produce easy evacuation of soft stools. It is advisable to initially use the minimum recommended dose. When necessary, the dose can be increased, but never exceed the maximum recommended dose. It is best to take it in the evening. Laxatives should be used as infrequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods requires a doctor's prescription after appropriate evaluation of the individual case. Take with an adequate amount of water (a large glass). A diet rich in fluids promotes the medicine's effect. Administration of the medicine to children under 6 years of age is not recommended.

 

This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.

 

Laxative abuse (frequent or prolonged use or excessive doses) can cause persistent diarrhea with consequent loss of water, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In more severe cases, dehydration or hypokalemia may occur, which can lead to cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunction, especially in the case of concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. Laxative abuse, especially contact laxatives (stimulant laxatives), can cause dependence (and thus the possible need to gradually increase the dosage), chronic constipation, and loss of normal bowel function (intestinal atony). Precautions: In children under 12 years of age, the medicine should be used only after consulting a doctor. Treatment of chronic or recurrent constipation always requires medical intervention for diagnosis, medication prescription, and monitoring during therapy. Consult a doctor when the need for a laxative arises from a sudden change in previous bowel habits (frequency and characteristics of bowel movements) that lasts more than two weeks, or when laxative use fails to produce effects. Elderly or otherwise unhealthy individuals should consult a doctor before using the medicine. Use only with a doctor's prescription in cases of kidney disease. If you have diabetes or are on a low-calorie diet, please note that the product contains sucrose. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. For the effervescent powder: if following a low-sodium diet, please note that the product contains sodium salts.

 

Laxatives can reduce the residence time in the intestine, and therefore the absorption, of other drugs administered orally at the same time. Therefore, avoid taking laxatives and other drugs at the same time: after taking a medicine, wait at least 2 hours before taking the laxative. Magnesium hydroxide, like all antacids, should not be taken simultaneously with tetracycline antibiotics as it reduces their absorption. Milk or antacids can alter the effect of the medicine; wait at least one hour before taking the laxative. Combinations to be avoided. Tetracyclines: formation of insoluble complexes with reduced absorption and activity of these antibiotics. Combination not recommended. Quinidine: increased plasma levels of quinidine and risk of overdose due to decreased excretion. Combinations requiring precautions for use. Indomethacin, phosphorus, dexamethasone, digitalis, iron salts, nitrofurantoin, lincomycin: decreased absorption at the digestive tract level.

 

Occasionally: diarrhea, isolated cramping pain or abdominal colic, more frequent in cases of severe constipation.

 

The medicine should be used only if necessary, under the direct supervision of a doctor, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk to the fetus. Magnesium is considered compatible with breastfeeding.
