Product Description

Rectal laxative solution useful for the treatment of constipation and for intestinal emptying.

Indications

The Fleet Enema is a rectal solution based on disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and disodium phosphate dodecahydrate that can be used:

• in the treatment of occasional constipation;
• for pre- and post-operative intestinal emptying;
• in obstetrics;
• in preparation for radioscopic examinations and endoscopic investigations of the upper intestinal tract.

Fleet Enema: instructions and dosage

Lie on your left side with your knees bent and your arms at rest. Remove the orange protective shield. Using constant pressure, carefully insert the Comfortip enema bottle into the anus with the cannula pointing toward the navel. Apply gentle pressure to the bottle until all the liquid is released (if a full dose is given). Do not force the enema if you encounter resistance, as this could cause injury.

It takes 2 to 5 minutes for the Fleet enema to work.

Adults and children over 12 years of age can be given one full dose.
Children and children between the ages of 3 and 12 years of age can be given one ½ dose.

Fleet enema during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Since the Fleet enema is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is recommended to use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are no relevant data available to evaluate the potential for fetal malformation or other fetotoxic effects when administered during pregnancy. Fleet Enema should be used under the direct supervision of a physician and only at the time of delivery or postpartum.

Sodium phosphate can pass into breast milk. It is recommended that breast milk be expressed and discarded for at least 24 hours after administering Fleet Enema.

Composition

Fleet Enema contains:

Active ingredient: 21.4 g (18.1% w/v) disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and 9.4 g (8.0% w/v) disodium phosphate dodecahydrate.
Excipients: Sodium methyl-para-hydroxybenzoate (E-219) Distilled water q.s.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Conditions that cause an increase in the absorption capacity, a decrease in the elimination capacity or a decrease in gastric motility.
Congestive heart failure.
Dehydration.
Children under 3 years of age.
Clinically significant renal insufficiency.
Other preparations containing sodium phosphates, including oral solutions or sodium phosphate tablets, should not be administered simultaneously.

Special warnings

Do not use ClismaFleet in case of nausea, vomiting or pain. Patients should be advised to expect loose stools and encouraged to drink fluids to help prevent dehydration, particularly patients with conditions that may predispose to dehydration or those taking medications that may decrease glomerular filtration rate, such as diuretics, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Expiry and storage

Check the expiry date indicated on the package. The expiry date indicated on the package refers to the product in its intact package, stored correctly. Store below 25°C. Caution: Do not use the medicine after the expiry date indicated on the package.
