Warnings and Precautions

Do not exceed the indicated dose. Avoid contact with eyes and ears. If the product comes into contact with eyes or ears, rinse promptly with water. The product is for external oral use only; do not swallow. If pain, swelling, or irritation of the mouth occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor or dentist. If a rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing occurs, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately. Initially, transient changes in taste and temporary sensations of numbness, tingling, or burning of the tongue may occur. These effects usually diminish with continued use. If they persist, consult your doctor or dentist. Use of topical products, especially prolonged use, may cause sensitization; in this case, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor to establish appropriate therapy. Do not use for prolonged treatments; after a short period of treatment without appreciable results, consult your doctor. Chlorhexidine gluconate can cause superficial staining of the tongue, teeth, and some materials used for fillings and dentures. The stains are not permanent and can be largely prevented by reducing the consumption of dietary colorants, such as tea, coffee, and red wine. With regard to teeth and orthodontic materials, this staining may occur. This discoloration can be prevented by using a regular toothpaste daily or before using Corsodyl solution, oral spray, and dental gel, taking care to rinse your mouth with water between treatments or at another time during the day. These precautions are necessary because chlorhexidine gluconate is incompatible with anionic compounds typically found in regular toothpastes. In some cases, discoloration can be eliminated by professional cleaning. In the case of anterior dentures and fillings with infiltrated edges and/or rough surfaces, discoloration may persist even after professional cleaning. Professional cleaning may be required following treatments such as jaw fixation or the application of orthodontic appliances that have prevented normal mechanical oral hygiene (e.g., brushing). Important information about some of the excipients CORSODYL contains polyoxyethylene—hydrogenated castor oil. It may cause irritation. cause local skin reactions.
