Therapeutic indications
Algofen Tablets are used in the treatment of pain of various origins and nature (headache, toothache, neuralgia, osteoarticular and muscular pain, menstrual pain)

Dosage and method of use
Algofen Tablets should be taken in the following doses and ways:

• Adults and children over 12 years: 1-2 coated tablets 2-3 times a day.

Do not exceed the dose of 6 coated tablets per day. Do not exceed the recommended doses: elderly patients in particular should stick to the minimum doses indicated above. It is advisable to take the medicine on a full stomach. If the use of the medicine is necessary for more than 3 days in adolescents, or in case of worsening of symptoms, a doctor must be consulted.

Contraindications

• Do not administer to children under 12 years of age. Known individual hypersensitivity to the product or to other antirheumatics (acetylsalicylic acid, etc.).
• History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation related to previous active treatments or history of recurrent peptic hemorrhage/ulcer (two or more distinct episodes of proven ulceration or bleeding).
• Third trimester of pregnancy.
• Severe cardiac failure.

Special warnings
After three days of treatment without appreciable results, consult your doctor. In asthmatic patients, the product should be used with caution and your doctor should be consulted before taking it. The use of ALGOFEN should be avoided in conjunction with NSAIDs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors.

Undesirable effects may be minimized by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis may adversely affect the pregnancy and/or embryo/fetal development. Results of epidemiological studies suggest an increased risk of miscarriage and of cardiac malformation and gastroschisis after use of a prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor in early pregnancy. The absolute risk of cardiac malformations increased from less than 1%, up to approximately 1.5%. The risk is believed to increase with dose and duration of therapy. In animals, administration of prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors has been shown to result in increased pre- and post-implantation loss and embryo-fetal mortality. Furthermore, an increased incidence of various malformations, including cardiovascular, has been reported in animals administered prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors during the organogenetic period.

During the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, ALGOFEN should not be administered unless clearly necessary. If ALGOFEN is used by a woman attempting to conceive, or during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, the dose and duration of treatment should be kept as low as possible. During the third trimester of pregnancy, all prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors may expose the fetus to:

• Cardiopulmonary toxicity (with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and pulmonary hypertension);
• Renal dysfunction, which may progress to renal failure with oligo-hydroamniosis; the mother and the newborn, at the end of pregnancy, to:
• Possible prolongation of bleeding time, and antiaggregant effect which may occur even at very low doses;
• Inhibition of uterine contractions resulting in delayed or prolonged labor.

Consequently, ALGOFEN is contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Expiry and storage
Check the expiry date indicated on the package. The expiry date indicated on the package refers to the product in its intact packaging, correctly stored. Store below 30°C. Keep in the original packaging to protect from moisture.

Warning: Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.

Algofen Tablets contain:
Active ingredient: Ibuprofen 200 mg.
Excipients: corn starch, stearic acid, cross-linked sodium carboxymethylcellulose, precipitated silica, polyvinylpyrrolidone, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, shellac, gum arabic, titanium dioxide, calcium sulfate, sucrose, carnauba wax.
