Indications

Zafeuretinal  is a food supplement containing lipoic acid, lycopene, and citicoline with dry saffron extract. The results obtained in experimental studies indicate that the components of saffron (in particular crocetin, Crocin, picrocrocin and safranal which all derive from a single carotenoid; zeaxanthin) act on nerve cells at least on two levels: they protect them with an anti-radical mechanism and act on the functionality of neurotransmitters with a specific mechanism.
In particular, from some studies conducted on both mice and humans, it seems that some components of saffron (Crocin and crocetin) are able to protect the photoreceptors present in the retina from damage caused by oxygen free radicals which determine the triggering of cascade reactions that result in the programmed death (apoptosis) of the photoreceptors themselves.
These degenerative processes are particularly present and accelerated in elderly subjects (age-related macular degeneration) or in the presence of genetic defects (see Stargardt Syndrome).

Zafeuretinal is composed of:

• Citicoline: In our body it acts as a raw material used directly for the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, one of the main constituents of cell membranes, and is also converted into acetylcholine, one of the most important neurotransmitters. Several recent studies report that citicoline improves visual function in both healthy subjects and, especially, in those suffering from glaucoma and amblyopia, thus suggesting that this substance is a neurotrophic factor for the optic nerve.
• Alpha-lipoic acid: Known for its high antioxidant power, alpha-lipoic acid or thioctic acid is an extremely versatile molecule as it maintains its activity in both aqueous (cytoplasm) and lipid (cell membrane) cellular compartments. Specifically, at the nervous level, it is able to protect this tissue by acting on various fronts but, above all, by limiting the damage caused by free radicals. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that the administration of alpha-lipoic acid can reduce the risk of cataracts.
• Lycopene: is a natural substance found in some plant-based foods. It belongs to the chemical family of carotenoids, a group of yellow-violet pigments that are very common in nature, but it is not pro-vitamin A, meaning it is not transformed into vitamin A. The interest in this substance is due to its strong antioxidant properties. In particular, lycopene exerts a protective action against ultraviolet rays, limiting the risks due to photo-damage, especially in case of prolonged exposure.

Composition

Maltodextrin, Lipene (from Solanum lycopersicum L. fructus) dry extract 10% citicoline, alpha-lipoic acid, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, Safr'Activ (Crocus sativus, stigmas) dry extract. 2% safranal, film-coating agents: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, talc, food shellac, coloring (paprima extract E160c).

Directions for use

We recommend taking 1 tablet per day or as needed, swallowed without chewing or breaking, and preferably taken between meals.

Warnings

Keep out of reach of children under three years of age.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
Supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not take during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
