Organic Silica G5 is a supplement based on the element of the same name: Silicon is an element in the periodic table found below carbon with atomic number 14. Silicon is always found with oxygen. Together, they are the most common elements in our environment and make up over 50% of the elements in the Earth's crust. Silicon is one of the essential elements of living matter and, after iron and zinc, is the third most abundant trace element in the human body. Silicon is contained in all cells and tissues but is particularly prevalent in connective tissues. Connective tissue is a vital component for the health of every organ in the body. Connective tissue makes up a variety of physical structures, including joints, cartilage, bones, skin (nails and hair), and blood vessels, including the heart. Thus, organs require silicon to restore or maintain their health and balance, but as we age, the concentration of silicon in our organs seemingly irreversibly decreases. Silicon deficiency negatively affects organs and tissues that contain collagen. It is not yet fully understood how or why this occurs, but the silicon atom appears to remain within collagen, perhaps acting as a "glue" for individual collagen fibers. In general, the structure of collagen, like the famous DNA molecule, is coiled in a spiral, providing cells and organs with their elasticity and ease of fluid movement. Silicon may therefore be vital to collagen's spiral structure and its smooth, elastic movement. Collagen provides strength and flexibility to connective tissue, which, in turn, provides health and well-being to every organ in the body, from the brain to the skin and bones.
