Raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is a deciduous plant native to Europe, Asia and North America. The scientific term Rubus dates back to Dioscorides and derives from rúbeo, meaning red, in reference to the color of the raspberry fruit. The epithet Idaeus comes from Mount Ida, near Troy, which was particularly rich in this species, according to the Italian physician Mattioli, who cites it in his "De materia medica." In Greece and Italy, raspberry cultivation began around 1500. Its use was mainly related to the female reproductive system. The main active ingredients it contains are: tannins (gallotannins, ellagitannins) and flavonoids, anthocyanidins. The part of Rubus idaeus L. used is the leaf.
