Veterinary antiparasitic drug for cats
Indications
Regular treatment with Vectra Felis prevents flea infestations.
Composition
Active ingredients
Each 0.9 ml spot-on applicator dispenses: Dinotefuran 423 mg, Pyriproxyfen 42.3 mg.
Excipients
Dimethyl sulfoxide.
Directions for use and Dosage
The minimum recommended dose is 42.3 mg dinotefuran/kg body weight and 4.23 mg pyriproxyfen/kg body weight.
The treatment dosage range is from 42.3 to 705 mg dinotefuran/kg body weight (bw) and from 4.23 to 70.5 mg pyriproxyfen/kg body weight (bw) for cats from 0.6 kg to 10 kg body weight.
Care should be taken to apply the veterinary medicinal product only to intact skin.
Treatment schedule:
Following a single application, the veterinary medicinal product will prevent flea infestation for one month and will also prevent flea multiplication by inhibiting the appearance of fleas in the cat's environment for 3 months.
The need to re-treat cats likely to be re-infested and the time interval between such treatments should be based on an individual case assessment.
Warnings
All cats in the household should be treated. Dogs in the household should only be treated with a veterinary medicinal product authorised for use in that species. Fleas may infest the cat's basket, bed, and usual resting areas such as carpets, sofas, and armchairs. In case of heavy flea infestation and at the beginning of control measures, these areas should be treated with an appropriate insecticide and then vacuumed regularly.
Undesirable effects
Transient cosmetic effects such as greasy hair and buildup at the application site have been reported and may persist for up to 7 days; however, these effects are usually no longer visible after 48 hours. These changes do not affect the safety or efficacy of the veterinary medicinal product. In rare cases (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 10,000 animals), mild dandruff, transient erythema, and alopecia may be observed, which usually disappear spontaneously without treatment.
Pregnancy and lactation
The safety of the veterinary medicinal product in adult cats has not been established during pregnancy and lactation. The use of the veterinary medicinal product in pregnant and lactating cats should therefore be based on a risk/benefit assessment.
Laboratory studies with each of the components, dinotefuran or pyriproxyfen, in rats and rabbits have not shown maternotoxic, teratogenic, or fetotoxic effects. In rats, dinotefuran has been shown to cross the blood-mammary barrier and be excreted in milk.
