Warnings

In order to achieve effective parasite control, treatment should be carried out based on the results of the parasitological examination of the feces. Parasite resistance to a particular class of anthelmintics may develop following frequent and repeated use of an anthelmintic of the same class. In case of Dipylidium caninum infestations, adequate control measures on the fleas that act as vectors must be implemented to prevent reinfestation.

Special precautions for use in animals:

It is not necessary to administer purgatives or to fast the animal during treatment. It is good practice during deworming to give animals lighter meals than usual. It is preferable to administer the drug on an empty stomach and at the same time as a small amount of palatable food. By administering Pralen according to the indicated methods, the complete elimination of adult parasites is achieved; To eliminate the larval forms of hookworms and roundworms, the complete treatment must be repeated 60 days after the end of the first treatment for roundworm infestations and 18 days after the end of the first treatment for hookworm infestations. Elimination of the parasites begins with the first administration; the eggs usually disappear completely within 10-15 days of the last administration. Therefore, a fecal examination for control must be performed after this period of time has elapsed. During treatment and also afterwards, it is necessary to carry out appropriate disinfestation operations on the premises, especially in kennels or breeding facilities, in order to avoid reinfestations. Furthermore, it is advisable to chemically denature the feces expelled by treated subjects in order to interrupt the continuation of the parasitic cycle.
