Indications
Pralen Oral Suspension Drops by Teknofarma is a veterinary drug for the treatment of parasitic infestations of dogs and cats caused by nematodes (roundworms) and cestodes (flatworms).
Cat:
Toxoca racati, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma tubaeformae, Ancylostoma braz iliense, Strongyloides spp., Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Mesocest oides spp., Echinococcus spp.
Dog:
Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Strongyloides stercoral is, Trichuris vulpis, Taenia ovis, Taenia pisiformis, Taenia hydatigen a, Taenia multiceps, Dipylidium caninum, Mesocestoides spp, Echinococc us spp.
Composition
Active ingredients
100 g of suspension contain: active ingredients: micronized mebendazole 12 g; praziquantel (microencapsulated) 1 g.
Excipients
Malt extract, solid paraffin (white petrolatum), potassium dihydrogen phosphate, cellulose acetophthalate, sodium saccharin, light liquid paraffin (vaseline oil).
Directions for use and Dosage
For oral use.
One drop of suspension contains 3.75 mg of Mebendazole and 0.312 mg of Praziquantel.
Administer 8 drops per kg of animal weight per day for two consecutive days, equal to 30 mg/kg bw/day of Mebendazole and 2.5 mg/kg bw/day of Praziquantel.
Always round the animal's weight to the next whole number. Pralen drops can be administered daily. It can be administered to puppies even in the first weeks of life. The drops are palatable to animals; they can be administered directly into the mouth or incorporated into preferred food. During treatment, the animal does not lose liveliness or appetite. Shake very vigorously before use until the sediment is completely dispersed.
Warnings
In order to achieve effective parasite control, treatment should be carried out based on the results of the parasitological examination of the feces. It is not necessary to administer laxatives or have the animal fast during treatment; it is good practice, during deworming, to give animals lighter meals than usual. It is preferable to administer the drug on an empty stomach and at the same time as a small amount of palatable food. By administering Pralen according to the indicated methods, the complete elimination of adult parasites is achieved; To eliminate hookworm and roundworm larvae, the complete treatment must be repeated 60 days after the first treatment for roundworm infestations and 18 days after the first treatment for hookworm infestations. Elimination of the parasites begins with the first administration; eggs are usually completely eliminated within 10-15 days of the last administration. Therefore, a fecal examination should be performed after this period. During and after treatment, appropriate disinfection procedures must be performed, especially in kennels and breeding facilities, to prevent reinfestation. Furthermore, it is advisable to chemically denature the feces expelled by treated subjects in order to interrupt the continuation of the parasitic cycle.
Special precautions for use in animals: none.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the product to animals: in case of accidental contact, wash hands thoroughly.
People with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients contained in this medicine should administer the product with caution. The administration of excessive doses does not cause any symptoms other than vomiting, which appears for Mebendazole above 500 mg/kg in dogs and 300 mg/kg in cats, for Praziquantel at 200 mg/kg in dogs.
Incompatibilities: none known. In the absence of compatibility studies, do not mix with other medicinal products.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Although Mebendazole has not shown teratogenic or embryotoxic effects typical of other benzimidazoles, its use is not recommended during the first fifteen days of pregnancy.
