Veterinary drug used as an ectoparasiticide for external use only on animals, against mites, fleas and lice for cage and aviary birds, dogs, cats and pet rabbits.
Indications
Neo Foractil Spray by Formevet is a veterinary drug consisting of pyrethroids (permethrin and tetramethrin) with antiparasitic activity, whose action is synergized by piperonyl butoxide which amplifies its action as it delays its metabolism in the insect.
Composition
1 g of product contains: active ingredients: piperonyl butoxide 10 mg, permethrin (cis/trans ratio 25/75) 3 mg, tetramethrin 2 mg; excipients: acetone, isopropyl alcohol, balsamic essence, butane/propane (3.2–3.5).
Directions for use and Dosage
Spray the product holding the canister about 5–10 cm from the area to be treated. The special valve allows you to dose the jet without dispersion. Spray according to the animal, avoiding the eyes and mouth, on feathers, coat, ears and paws. Do not exceed the recommended doses. The interval between one treatment and the next should be 1–2 weeks.
- Dog: 2 to 4 ml of product/kg, depending on the length of the coat, equal to approximately 2–4 seconds of spray per kg. The interval between one treatment and the next should not be less than 3-4 weeks.
- Cat: 2 ml of product/kg, equivalent to approximately 2 seconds of spray per kg. The interval between one treatment and the next should be at least 4 weeks.
- Pet rabbit: 3 ml of product/kg, equivalent to approximately 3 seconds of spray per kg. The interval between one treatment and the next should be 3-4 weeks.
- Cage and aviary birds: 1 to 2 ml of solution administered per spray for a 15-20 g bird depending on the severity of the lesions caused by mites and parasitic insects, equal to 1-2 seconds of spraying.
Warnings
Special warnings for each target species
Use the product according to the instructions for use indicated. The use, especially if prolonged, of topical products can give rise to sensitization phenomena; in this case, discontinue treatment and consult your veterinarian to establish an appropriate therapy. Do not use for prolonged treatments; After a short period of treatment without appreciable results, consult your veterinarian.
Special precautions for use in animals
The product is intended for external use only. When using, avoid spraying the product on the face, eyes, mucous membranes, and inner ear. Do not exceed the recommended dose. During the first few days of use, it is advisable to monitor the animal. Do not use excessive or inappropriate quantities. Prevent the animal from licking its fur while it is still wet. Prevent the product from being inhaled or ingested by animals. Use in a ventilated area and ventilate the room well before returning. Do not contaminate food, drinks, or containers intended to contain them.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the product to animals
Wear gloves when applying the product. Avoid ingesting the product during treatment. Do not contaminate food, beverages, or containers intended to contain them with the product. After use, rinse hands with soap and running water. If you feel unwell or accidentally swallow, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or package insert. Causes serious eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes, face, and mucous membranes; do not inhale. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water or saline. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists, consult a doctor. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while using this product. People with known hypersensitivity to piperonyl butoxide, permethrin (cis/trans ratio 25/75), tetramethrin and excipients should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.
Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay
Use only according to the benefit/risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian.
Interaction with other veterinary medicinal products and other forms of interaction
There are no known pharmacological interactions of the product, however it is advisable not to use the product at the same time as other antiparasitics.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes)
In case of overdose the following may occur:
- excess salivation and respiratory secretions: administer atropine (0.02-0.5 mg/kg SC);
- Tremors, convulsions, fasciculations: administer diazepam (0.5-1.0 mg/kg IV) repeatedly until the desired effect is achieved and/or methocarbamol (44 mg/kg IV) or pentobarbital (3-15 mg/kg IV slowly) to be repeated until effective for the control of convulsions and fasciculations.
Inducing diuresis through fluid therapy can promote the elimination of the metabolites of toxic substances and maintain/restore water and salt balance. Incompatibilities In the absence of compatibility studies, this veterinary medicinal product must not be mixed with other veterinary medicinal products.
Adverse reactions
Allergic events may occur in predisposed subjects. If a skin reaction due to the use of the product appears, discontinue treatment. Use, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena. In case of overdose, the following may occur: excessive salivation, respiratory secretions, tremors, convulsions, fasciculations (see also the Overdose section). If serious adverse reactions or other reactions not mentioned in this leaflet occur, please inform your veterinarian.
Withdrawal period
Not applicable. Do not administer to animals producing food intended for human consumption.
Contraindications
Do not use on puppies and rabbits under 3 months of age; do not use on cats under 1 year of age. Do not use on sick, convalescent animals or those with extensive skin lesions. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients. Do not use simultaneously with other antiparasitic products.
Storage
Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Danger. Extremely flammable aerosol. Pressurized container: May burst if heated. Protect from sunlight. Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C. Pressurized container: Do not pierce or burn, even after use. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources. Do not spray on an open flame or other ignition source. Do not use this veterinary medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP.
