Droncit is an antiparasitic for dogs and cats.

Characteristics

Droncit is effective against: Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Taenia ovis, Taenia hydatigena, Taenia multiceps, Hydatigena (Taenia) taeniaeformis, Dipylidium caninum, Mesocestoides corti, Taenia pisiformis, Diphyllobothrium (Spirometra) erinacei.

The dog, carrier of the echinococcus tapeworm, becomes infected through sheep, cattle or pigs and can also transmit echinococcosis (hydatidosis, cystic form) to humans, a serious social disease in regions with sheep farming. Therapeutic and/or prophylactic treatment with Droncit (possibly planned on a large scale) interrupts the parasite's biological cycle and prevents transmission to humans.

Directions for use

The basic dose for dogs and cats is 5 mg/kg b.w. Therefore: 1 tablet up to 10 kg b.w., 2 tablets from 11 to 20 kg, 3 tablets from 21 to 30 kg. Against Diphyllobothrium (Spirometra), a dose of one tablet per 2.5 kg b.w. is required. Overdoses of up to double the recommended dose are not harmful, especially in cases of treatment against massive echinococcus tapeworm infestations.

Warnings

Droncit is very well tolerated. Treatment should be administered on an empty stomach, and animals should be monitored immediately after administration so that treatment can be repeated in the event of any rejection of the tablets. Droncit can be administered directly, coated in meat, or crushed into food.
