Veterinary drug with antiparasitic action for small dogs.
Effix 67 Mg+600 Mg by Virbac is an antiparasitic pipette for small dogs (4-10 kg) active for 4 weeks against the 4 main parasites (sandflies, mosquitoes, ticks and fleas) indicated for
Fipronil, permethrin.
Benzyl alcohol, diethyl glycol, monoethyl ether.
The minimum recommended dose is:
The veterinary medicinal product remains effective after exposure to the sun or if the animal gets wet after rain. Avoid shampooing or immersing the animal in water of treated animals as this may shorten the duration of activity. A dog with fleas may show an allergic reaction to flea saliva called Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD). If the dog develops red skin, itching and biting, or excessive scratching and is restless and annoyed, check for FAD. To reduce reinfestation and the appearance of new fleas, it is recommended to treat all dogs in the household. Other animals living in the same household should be treated with a suitable product. Pet fleas often infest the animal's basket, kennel, and resting areas, such as carpets and soft furnishings. These should be treated in the event of a severe infestation and at the start of control measures, using a suitable insecticide and vacuuming regularly. Fleas can, however, be eaten by individual ticks or bites from individual sandflies or mosquitoes. Therefore, in case of short-term travel (less than 4 weeks in endemic areas), it is recommended to apply the treatment immediately before the expected exposure. For longer periods of exposure (animals living in endemic areas or staying there for periods longer than 4 weeks), the treatment schedule must be based on epidemiological information. Animals must be accurately weighed before treatment. The safety of the product has not been established in dogs less than 12 weeks of age or weighing less than 1.5 kg. Care must be taken to avoid contact of the contents of the pipette with the eyes or mouth of the dogs to be treated. In particular, oral ingestion due to licking of the application site by the animal and by animals in contact should be avoided. This product is extremely toxic to cats and could be fatal due to the peculiar physiology of cats, which is unable to metabolize certain compounds including permethrin. In case of accidental skin exposure, wash the cat with shampoo. or soap. To prevent cats from being accidentally exposed to the product, keep treated dogs away from cats after treatment until the application site is dry. It is important to prevent cats from licking the application site of a dog treated with this product. Do not use on cats or rabbits. Without veterinary advice, this product should not be used on sick or debilitated animals. Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the product to animals: The product may cause neurotoxicity. The product may be harmful if swallowed. Avoid ingestion, including hand-to-mouth contact. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately. The product may cause irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes. Therefore, avoid contact of the product with the mouth or eyes, including accidental hand-to-mouth and hand-to-eye contact. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with water. If eye irritation persists, consult a doctor. Avoid contact with skin. If the product comes into contact with skin, wash the skin immediately. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Do not smoke, drink, or eat during application. People with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to fipronil, permethrin, or any of its components should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product, which, in some individuals, on very rare occasions, may cause respiratory tract irritation and skin reactions. Treated animals should not be handled, and adults and children should not be allowed to play with treated animals until the application site is dry and for approximately 12 hours after application. It is therefore recommended that animals be treated during the early evening or late afternoon to minimize possible contact with treated animals. Fipronil and permethrin may adversely affect aquatic organisms. Dogs should not be allowed to swim in waterways for 2 days after application. The product may have an adverse effect on painted household surfaces or other paintings or furnishings. Allow the application site to dry before allowing contact with such materials.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients. Do not use on rabbits and cats where adverse reactions may occur up to the death of the animal. Do not use in sick animals (systemic diseases, fever) or in convalescent animals.
Among the suspected adverse reactions, transient skin reactions at the application site (itching, erythema) and widespread itching have been reported after use in a few subjects. Hyperactivity and vomiting have been observed exceptionally. In case of licking, transient hypersalivation may be observed.
In healthy 12-week-old puppies treated 3 times at 3-week intervals, safety has been demonstrated with doses up to 5 times the maximum recommended dose.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carried out after evaluating the risk/benefit ratio.
