Product Description

Treatment of mixed nematode and cestode infections.

Indications

Drontal Multi Aroma Carne XL for the treatment of mixed nematode and cestode infections of the following species:

Nematodes:

• Roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina);
• Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala);
• Chuckleberry (Trichuris vulpis).

Cestodes:

• Echinococcus granulosus;
• Echinococcus multilocularis;
• Dipylidium caninum;
• Taenia spp.

Composition

Active ingredients

Each tablet contains: febantel 525 mg, pyrantel 175 mg (equivalent to 504 mg of pyrantel embonate), praziquantel 175 mg.

Excipients

Maize starch, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, Povidone K25, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, colloidal anhydrous silica, croscarmellose sodium, meat flavor.

Directions for use and Dosage

The administration is 15 mg of febantel and 14.4 mg of pyrantel embonate and 5 mg of praziquantel for each kg of body weight. A single administration is sufficient for the complete deworming of dogs and frees the dog from all roundworms and tapeworms simultaneously.

For the treatment of dogs, the doses are as follows:

• 1 tablet for every 7-17.5 kg of body weight;
• 1 tablet between 17.5 and 35 kg of body weight;
• 1 tablet 12; between 35 and 52.5 kg of body weight;
• 2 tablets between 52.5 and 70 kg of body weight;
• For every additional 17.5 kg of body weight, administer an additional half tablet.

For dogs weighing less than 10 kg, a half tablet may be administered. The product Drontal multi-flavored meat can be used.

Warnings

Fleas act as intermediate hosts for a common type of tapeworm: Dipylidium caninum.
Tapeworm infestation will recur if intermediate hosts, such as fleas, mice, etc., are not controlled.
Resistance of a parasite to a particular class of antihelminthics can be develop following frequent, repeated use of an anthelmintic of this class.
To minimize the risk of reinfestation or new infestation, faeces should be collected and properly disposed of for 24 hours after treatment.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals: In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician.
In the interest of good hygiene, those administering the product directly to a dog or by adding it to the dog's food should wash their hands afterwards.
Other precautions: As it contains praziquantel, the product is effective against Echinococcus spp. which are not present in all EU Member States, but are becoming more common in some.

Contraindications

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Do not use during the first and second third of pregnancy.

In very rare cases (less than 1 animal in 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports), mild and transient disorders of the digestive tract (e.g. vomiting) may occur.

Pregnancy and lactation

Teratogenic effects attributed to high doses of febantel, administered during the early stages of pregnancy, have been reported in rats, sheep and dogs.
The safety of the product has not been studied during the first and second third of pregnancy.
Do not use in pregnant bitches during the first and second third of pregnancy.
A single treatment during the last third of pregnancy or during lactation has been shown to be safe.
