Product Description

Antiparasitic treatment for cats and ferrets useful for preventing and treating infestations.

Indications

Amflee Combo is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations or in association with ticks and/or biting lice in cats and ferrets. The product has persistent insecticidal efficacy for up to 4 weeks against fleas and is effective in preventing the multiplication of fleas by inhibiting the development of eggs (ovicidal activity), larvae and pupae (larvicidal activity) from eggs laid by adult fleas for six weeks after application and persistent acaricidal efficacy for up to 2 weeks. It is also effective in eliminating ticks (Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor variabilis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) and biting lice (Felicola subrostrasus). Finally, it can be used as part of the treatment strategy for the control of Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD), where it has been previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.

Ferrets: to be used for infestations by fleas only or in association with ticks.

Warnings

Cats: can be used during pregnancy. The potential toxicity of the product in kittens under 8 weeks of age in contact with treated adults is not documented. Particular caution should be exercised in this case.
Ferrets: laboratory studies on cats have shown no evidence of teratogenic, foetotoxic or maternotoxic effects. The safety of the veterinary medicinal product in pregnant and lactating ferrets has not been established. Use only in accordance with the benefit/risk assessment.

Precautions for use

Fleas present on animals often infest bedding, blankets, and the animal's usual resting areas, such as carpets and soft furnishings. In the event of heavy infestations and at the start of control measures, these should be treated with an appropriate insecticide and regularly vacuumed. No information is available on the effect of bathing/shampooing on the efficacy of the product in cats and ferrets. However, based on the information available for dogs bathed starting two days after application of the product, bathing animals within two days after application of the product is not recommended. Avoid contact with the animal's eyes. It is important to ensure that the product is applied to an area where animals cannot lick it and to ensure that animals do not lick each other following treatment. Attachment of single ticks may occur. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely ruled out under favorable conditions.

Special precautions

For those administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals: This product may cause irritation to mucous membranes, skin, and eyes. Therefore, contact between the product and the mouth, skin, and eyes should be avoided. People with known hypersensitivity to insecticides or alcohol should avoid contact with the product. Avoid allowing the contents to come into contact with your fingers. If this occurs, wash your hands immediately with soap and water. In case of accidental contact with your eyes, rinse them immediately with plenty of clean water. Wash your hands after use. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the doctor. Do not smoke, drink, or eat during application. Treated animals should not be handled until the application site is dry, and children should not be allowed to play with treated animals until the application site is dry. It is therefore recommended not to treat animals during the day, but in the evening, and not to allow recently treated animals to sleep with their owners, especially children.

Overdose

The risk of adverse reactions may increase in case of overdose. No adverse reactions have been observed in cats, and in kittens 8 weeks of age or older and weighing approximately 1 kg, treated once a month with 5 times the recommended dose for 6 consecutive months. Itching may occur after treatment. Applying an overdose of the product may cause the hair at the application site to become sticky. However, if this occurs, it will disappear within 24 hours of application. In ferrets: In ferrets 6 months of age or older and treated once every 2 weeks for four treatments, 5 times the recommended dose, weight loss was observed in some animals.

Undesirable effects

Do not overdose.
Cats: Among the extremely rare suspected adverse reactions, transient skin reactions at the application site (scaling, local alopecia, pruritus, erythema) and general pruritus or alopecia have been reported after use. Hypersalivation, reversible neurological symptoms (hyperesthesia, depression, nervous symptoms), vomiting and/or respiratory symptoms have also been observed after use. If the animal licks itself, a short period of hypersalivation may be observed due to the nature of the vector.
