Antiparasitic treatment for cats useful for preventing and treating infestations.
Amflee cat is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides spp.) and tick (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus) infestations in cats. The product has persistent insecticidal efficacy for up to 4 weeks against fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.) and acaricidal efficacy for up to 4 weeks against Ixodes ricinus and up to 1 week against Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus.
If ticks of the species Rhipicephalus sanguineus are present when the product is applied, not all ticks may be killed within the first 48 hours, but they may be killed within a week. The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD), when this has been previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.
1 pipette (0.5 ml) contains: fipronil 50 mg.
Butylhydroxyanisole (E320), Butylhydroxytoluene (E321), Polysorbate 80, Povidone K25, Dimethyl sulfoxide.
For external use only. Administer 1 pipette of 0.5 ml per animal by topical application to the skin.
It is important to ensure that the product is applied to an area that the animal cannot lick and that animals do not lick each other after treatment. The fur should be parted and the product should be applied to the skin. At the application site, transient changes in the coat (clumps/greasy hair and/or deposits on the hair) may be observed, which usually disappear within 24 hours.
Treatment schedule: For optimal control of flea and/or tick infestations, the treatment schedule can be based on the local epidemiological situation. In the absence of safety studies, the minimum interval between treatments is 4 weeks.
Fleas present on animals often infest the animal's kennel, blankets and usual resting areas such as carpets and upholstery fabrics. In the case of massive infestations and at the beginning of control measures, these should be treated with a suitable insecticide and regularly vacuumed.
The product does not prevent tick attachment to animals. If the animal has been treated before exposure to ticks, the ticks will be killed within 24-48 hours after attachment. This usually occurs before the animal finishes feeding, reducing but not eliminating the risk of disease transmission. Once dead, ticks often fall off the animal, but any remaining ticks can be removed by gently pulling them.
There is no information available on the effect of bathing/shampooing on the product's efficacy in cats. However, based on information available for dogs, weekly one-minute soaks in water reduce the duration of insecticidal efficacy against fleas by one week.
For optimal control of flea infestations in a multi-family household, use a flea bath. Pets: All dogs and cats in the household should be treated with an appropriate insecticide.
When used as part of a strategy for the treatment of Flea Allergy Dermatitis, monthly applications are recommended for allergic patients and other cats in the household.
Avoid contact with the animal's eyes. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
Do not apply the product to wounds or broken skin. Animals must be accurately weighed before treatment.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals: This product may cause irritation to mucous membranes and eyes. Therefore, contact between the product and the mouth or eyes should be avoided. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If eye irritation persists, seek medical advice and show the package leaflet or label.
Avoid contact of the contents with your fingers. If this occurs, wash your hands immediately with soap and water. Wash your hands after use. Do not smoke, drink, or eat during application. People with known hypersensitivity to fipronil or dimethyl sulfoxide or any of the excipients should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.
Treated animals should not be handled until the application site is dry, and children should not be allowed to play with treated animals until the application site is dry. It is therefore recommended not to treat animals during the day, but in the evening and not to allow recently treated animals to sleep with their owners, especially children.
Keep pipettes in the original container and dispose of used pipettes immediately.
In the absence of available data, the product should not be used on kittens under 2 months of age and/or weighing less than 1 kg. Do not use on sick animals (e.g., systemic diseases, fever, etc.) or convalescent animals. Do not use on rabbits, as adverse reactions and even death may occur. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance, dimethyl sulfoxide, or any of the excipients.
If the animal licks itself, a brief period of hypersalivation may be observed. Among the extremely rare suspected adverse reactions, transient skin reactions at the application site (scaly skin, local alopecia, pruritus, erythema) and general pruritus or alopecia have been reported after use. Hypersalivation, reversible neurological symptoms (hyperesthesia, depression, nervous symptoms), and vomiting have been exceptionally observed after use.
In safety studies in the target species, no adverse reactions were observed in cats and kittens aged 2 months or older or weighing approximately 1 kg, treated once a month with 5 times the recommended dose for 3 consecutive months. However, the risk of adverse reactions may increase in case of overdose.
Laboratory studies using fipronil have shown no evidence of teratogenic or embryotoxic effects. No studies have been conducted with this product in pregnant or lactating cats. Use during pregnancy and lactation only according to a risk/benefit assessment.
