Excipients
Emorril ointment: 100 g of ointment contain: anhydrous lanolin; methyl p-hydroxybenzoate; propyl p-hydroxybenzoate; polysorbate 61; white petrolatum; propylene glycol; carbomer; citric acid; purified water. Emorril suppositories: one suppository contains: solid semi-synthetic glycerides.
Therapeutic indications
Internal and external hemorrhoids; complications of hemorrhoids (eczema, erythema, fissures, itching, burning); pre- or post-operative treatment in anorectal surgery.
Contraindications
The product, in the form of suppositories and ointment, is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to amide-type local anesthetics and cortisone, although the two substances have been shown to have relatively no allergic or sensitizing properties. Emorril should not be administered to patients under 12 years of age.
Dosage
Emorril ointment: 2 or more suppositories per day. 1 application per day, with a gentle massage, in an amount sufficient to cover the affected area. For internal applications, use the special cannula included in the package, which fits the tube. Emorril suppositories: Initially, 1 suppository in the morning and 1 in the evening. Subsequently, 1 suppository before going to bed may be sufficient. The cream and suppositories can be used for combined internal and external treatments.
Warnings and precautions
Use of the product, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena. In this case, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor in order to establish appropriate therapy. The same applies in the case of bleeding. Keep away from eyes. For those who participate in sports: use of the drug without therapeutic need constitutes doping and may cause serious injury. However, this may result in a positive result in anti-doping tests.
Interactions
There are no known interactions with other medicinal products or other forms of interaction.
Undesirable effects
Side effects may occur due to excessive dosage or rapid absorption of lidocaine; this is a phenomenon common to any other anesthetic. If allergic reactions occur (characterized by skin lesions, urticaria, edema, and anaphylactic reactions), the application should be discontinued. With the use of suppositories, general reactions affecting the central nervous system (dizziness, blurred vision, drowsiness, tremor, exceptionally convulsions and loss of consciousness) or the cardiovascular system with myocardial depression, hypotension, and bradycardia are rare. Hydrocortisone, like other topical corticosteroid preparations, can accentuate an incipient infection. In this case, it is necessary to establish suitable cover therapy.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
In pregnant women, use only in case of real need and under direct medical supervision.
