The plant from which this essential oil is obtained is native to Australia and owes its name (Malaleuca alternifolia) to the fact that its very dark leaves contrast with the white bark.
Malaleuca in fact derives from the Greek: mèlanos, black and leukòs, white.
Tea Tree essential oil, also known as malaleuca, is known for its antiseptic properties and its ability to easily heal wounds.
