Hydroalcoholic solutions obtained from fresh plants have the advantage of preserving all the plant's active ingredients at the time of harvest. They retain the plant's energy and make its contained compounds more bioavailable to the human body, increasing their effectiveness and their effects on various systems. Most plants are harvested wild, while the remainder are organically grown. Wild species are collected in the Apennines (Liguria and Romagna) and, to a lesser extent, in the Alps during their balsamic period. They are then macerated within six hours of harvest in a hydroalcoholic solution at varying strengths depending on their characteristics. Each plant is, in fact, extracted at its optimal strength. When necessary, extraction is performed first in water and only secondarily in alcohol (Mallow and other plants containing mucilage, or Devil's Claw for the extraction of iridoid principles, are first placed in aqueous maceration to allow for the extraction of the most water-soluble principles and then completed in alcohol. The maceration time must be at least six months and the macerate frequently and regularly stirred. After maceration, pressing and filtering follow, finally the resulting tincture is brought back to volume. Plant salt obtained by calcining the residue from the pressing is then added to an increasingly numerous tinctures. The calcination of what remains of the plant, after pressing, allows for the ash to be obtained, which is then washed in rainwater.
