Product Description

Antiallergic and antihistamine drug.

Indications

Zirtec tablets is a drug based on the active ingredient cetirizine which can can be used by both adults and children aged 6 years and above for:

• the treatment of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis;
• the symptomatic treatment of chronic urticaria.

Composition

One film-coated tablet contains:

• Zirtec Active Ingredient: 10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride;
• Excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, opadry Y-1-7000 (consisting of: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (E 464) Titanium dioxide (E 171) Macrogol 400).

Zirtec Dosage 

The antihistamine Zirtec tablets must be swallowed with a glass of liquid and can be taken whole, or divided into 2 equal parts according to the following dosage:

• Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: take one tablet a day.
• Children between 6 and 12 years of age: take half a tablet twice a day.
• Patients with renal impairment: the recommended dose is half a pill a day; In case of renal impairment in adults and children, it is always best to contact your doctor before taking Zirtec tablets, since cetirizine is mainly excreted through the kidneys.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and duration of the patient's disorders. If, while taking it, you feel that the effect of Zirtec is too weak or too strong, it is important to consult your doctor.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Zirtec cannot be classified as a lactose-free antihistamine. Its use should therefore be limited or excluded in the case of patients who are lactose intolerant. In this case, it is advisable to strictly follow your doctor's advice.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects are rare or very rare.

However, it is advisable to stop taking the medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you notice the appearance of allergic reactions, including severe reactions and angioedema (serious allergic reaction causing swelling of the face or throat).

These reactions may occur immediately after taking the medicine or later.
