Product Description

Anti-inflammatory.

Indications

Voltaren Ofta Eye Drops are useful for inflammatory conditions, possibly painful and not infectious, affecting the anterior segment of the eye, particularly during cataract surgery.

Composition

Active ingredients

Diclofenac sodium.

Excipients

Boric acid; polyoxyl castor oil; tromethamine; water for injections.

Warnings

In the presence or risk of infection, appropriate therapy (e.g., antibiotics) must be administered concurrently with the drug. The single-dose container remains sterile until opened. Avoid contact with the eye or ocular adnexa due to the risk of contamination.
In patients at increased risk of corneal disease, for example, during steroid use and in patients with concomitant diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, the use of diclofenac has been associated, in rare cases, with the onset of ulcerative keratitis or corneal thinning, punctate keratitis, corneal epithelial defects, and corneal edema, which may require treatment.
Most patients who have experienced these complications have been treated for a very long period of time.
Topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac should be administered with caution when combined with topical steroids.
Pediatric population: There is limited experience in children over 2 years of age, derived solely from clinical studies for use in strabismus surgery; therefore, the medicinal product is generally not recommended in pediatric patients.

Interactions

The concomitant use of topical NSAIDs such as diclofenac and topical steroids in patients with significant pre-existing corneal inflammation may increase the risk of developing corneal complications; therefore, such use should be done with caution. Clinical data have shown that the drug can, if necessary, be combined with antibiotic eye drops and beta-blockers. To prevent the active ingredient from being removed when combined with another ophthalmic treatment, a minimum interval of 5 minutes should be maintained between each application.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Administration of the product during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended, except in specific cases and after careful consideration by a physician of both the benefits and potential risks of therapy. Reproductive toxicity studies conducted with the drug are not available. The mild effects of diclofenac on fertility and childbirth, as well as constriction of the ductus arteriosus in the uterus, are pharmacological consequences of this class of prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors.
