Warnings: The likelihood of other systemic side effects from topical diclofenac is very low compared to diclofenac taken orally. However, when Voltaren Emulgel 1% gel is applied to a large area and for a prolonged period of time, the occurrence of systemic side effects cannot be ruled out.
Precautions: Voltaren Emulgel 1% gel should be applied only to intact, healthy skin. Carefully avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not ingest.
Known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, propylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol, or other components of the formulation. Voltaren Emulgel 1% gel is also contraindicated in patients allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
None known.
Local reactions: occasional allergic or non-allergic contact dermatitis (with signs and symptoms such as itching, redness, edema, papules, vesicles, blisters or cracking of the skin).
Systemic reactions: in isolated cases, generalized skin rashes, hypersensitivity reactions (asthmatic attacks, angioedema), photosensitivity reactions.
Experience with Voltaren Emulgel 1% gel during pregnancy is very limited, therefore it is recommended not to use the drug during this period. The amount of diclofenac that passes into breast milk is expected to be negligible, however there is insufficient clinical experience with Voltaren Emulgel 1% gel during breastfeeding.
