Vicks vaporub - fast-acting inhalation ointment for colds 35g

Product Description

Vicks Vaporub is an inhalation ointment containing camphor, turpentine essential oil, menthol, and eucalyptus essential oil, used to relieve the symptoms of colds.

Indications

Vicks Vaporub contains camphor, turpentine essential oil, menthol, and eucalyptus essential oil, substances with antiseptic, expectorant, and decongestant properties. Used for the relief of cold symptoms.

Contact your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 3 days.

Composition

Active ingredients

Camphor, turpentine essential oil, menthol, eucalyptus essential oil.

Interactions

Do not use Vicks Vaporub at the same time as other products (medicinal or cosmetic) that contain terpene derivatives.

Warnings

The medicine is intended for external use only. It should not be swallowed, heated in the microwave, or reheated during or after use. Do not use boiling water to prepare inhalations as it may cause irritation. You may be exposed to the risk of serious burns (see also 'How to take Vicks Vaporub').

Contraindications

• if you are allergic to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
• in children under 30 months;
• to make children under 12 years of age breathe in the vapours (inhalations);
• in children who suffer or have suffered from epilepsy or fever convulsions;
• during pregnancy, unless your doctor considers it strictly necessary;
• while breastfeeding;
• at the same time as other products (medicinal or cosmetic) containing terpene derivatives;
• on wounds, abrasions, mucous membranes, nostrils, eyes, mouth, or face;
• with a tight bandage;
• with hot compresses, or other heat sources.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop treatment and tell your doctor if you experience the following side effects, as they could be symptoms of a hypersensitivity reaction:

• difficulty breathing; breathing (dyspnea) and cough.

Other allergic reactions that may occur, for which you should consult your doctor are:

• mild skin irritation, more severe specifically allergic dermatitis, redness and itching after topical use;
• mild eye irritation.

Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

• redness and sensation of heat of the skin (erythema or heat erythema);
• burns at the application site;
• convulsions in children and infants due to the presence of camphor and menthol. These effects occur following the administration of excessive doses of the medicine.

Overdose

Convulsions in children and infants may occur due to the presence of camphor and menthol following administration of excessive doses of the medicine.
