Verify® Menopause Self Test is a rapid test that detects FSH levels in urine to indicate probable perimenopause or menopause.
The menopause self test detects the amount of FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) in your urine. During perimenopause and menopause, FSH levels increase in response to the decline in estrogen.
When to Do It
Advantages of the Test
What to Do After the Test
The test contains anti-FSH and anti-FSH particles coated on the membrane.
How the Test Works
Collect your morning urine (the most concentrated). Immerse the strip or stick in the sample for a few seconds. Wait 5–10 minutes. Read the result by comparing the lines:
| Lines | Meaning |
| 2 lines (test and control visible) | Positive '†’ Elevated FSH '†’ probable perimenopause or menopause |
| 1 control line only | Negative '†’ Not elevated FSH |
| No lines or test line only | Invalid test '†’ Repeat |
FSH levels fluctuate naturally, so it is recommended to repeat the test after 5–7 days for confirmation.
When to Start Testing
How to Use
Before performing the test, allow the urine sample and/or controls to reach room temperature (15-30°C).
Determine the day to start testing. (See previous section: 'When to Start Testing').
Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test from the sealed pouch and use it within one hour.
Remove the midstream cap, place the absorbent tip in your urine stream or immerse the absorbent tip ('‰¥2/3) in the urine of a clean container for at least 10-15 seconds.
Replace the cap on the test, then place the midstream on a clean, stable surface with the control window facing up and immediately start the timer.
When the test begins the detection process, you may notice a clear stream moving through the control window. Read the result after 3 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.
Reading Results
Positive: Two lines are visible, and the line in the test area (T) is equal to or darker than the line in the control area (C). A positive result means that the Fsh level is higher than normal. Record the results and compare them to the graph above for interpretation.
Negative: Two lines are visible, but the line in the test area (T) is dimmer than the line in the control area (C), or no line appears in the test area (T). A negative result means that the Fsh level is not currently elevated. Record the results and compare them to the graph above for interpretation.
Invalid: The control line does not appear. The most likely reasons for the control line not appearing are insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques. Review the procedure and repeat the test with a new test. If the problem persists, discontinue use of the test kit immediately and contact your local distributor.
Test Interpretation
For women experiencing premenopausal symptoms along with irregular menstrual cycles.
Procedure Control
A procedural control is included in the test. The colored line that appears in the control region (C) is a procedural control. This test is considered an internal procedural control. It confirms sufficient sample volume, adequate membrane absorption, and correct procedural technique.
Limitations and Warnings
The test only detects FSH, but does not confirm the diagnosis of menopause by itself. It does not measure other important hormones such as estradiol, LH, or progesterone. Factors such as stress, medications, breastfeeding, thyroid disease may affect the result.
Precautions
Limitations
There is a possibility that this test may produce false positive or false negative results. Consult your healthcare provider before making any medical decisions. Invalid results are most likely caused by not following the instructions correctly. Review the instructions and repeat the test with a new test. If the problem persists, discontinue use of the test kit immediately and contact your local distributor.
Store in the pouch at room temperature or in the refrigerator (2-30°C). The test is stable until the expiration date printed on the sealed pouch. The test must remain in the sealed pouch until use. Do not freeze. Do not use beyond the expiration date.
Specimen Collection and Preparation
The urine sample must be collected in a clean, dry container. A first morning urine sample is preferable as it generally contains the highest concentration of FSH; however, urine samples collected at any time of day may be used. Urine samples showing visible precipitates should be centrifuged, filtered, or allowed to settle to obtain a clear sample for analysis.
Sample Storage
Urine samples can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 48 hours prior to testing. For extended storage, samples can be frozen and stored below -20°C. Frozen samples must be thawed and mixed before testing.
