Valbiapas is a product based on valerian and passionflower, marketed as a natural remedy for anxiety and insomnia. This product is obtained by macerating the fresh plants in specially titrated hydroalcoholic solutions and subsequently filtering and diluting them. In this way, the active ingredients with phytotherapeutic properties are extracted, including valerenic acids, flavonoids, and curarine, which are attributed to the sedative and anxiolytic properties. More precisely, the aforementioned phytotherapeutic elements carry out their activities through different mechanisms of action that involve the GABA receptor system, both by inhibiting the gamma-aminobutyric transaminase enzyme, responsible for the enzymatic degradation of GABA, and by mimicking the biological action of this neurotransmitter, thus activating the GABA receptor. GABAergic receptors, responsible for cellular hyperpolarization and therefore the related neuronal inhibition. This results in a sedative and anxiolytic action, while avoiding some of the side effects commonly associated with therapy with psychotropic drugs such as benzodiazepines, diazepam, and chlorpromazine. The aforementioned calming action may also extend to the smooth muscles of the abdomen and pelvis, thus reducing the intensity and frequency of cramp-like contractions responsible for intense pain.
It is recommended to take 20-30 drops diluted in a little water or other beverage 2-3 times a day.
