Product Description

Treatment of superficial skin infections.

Indications

Streptosil with Neomycin is a medicine for application to the skin that contains neomycin sulfate and sulfathiazole.
Neomycin sulfate is an antibiotic. Sulfathiazole is an antibacterial.
They are used to fight bacterial skin infections.

This medicine is indicated in adults and children for the treatment of superficial skin infections:
Folliculitis (infection of the hair follicle, the structure that surrounds the root of the hair);
Furunculosis (inflammation of the skin characterized by the presence of boils);
Wounds from small burns;
Infected wounds.

Composition

Active ingredients

20g of ointment contain: Sulfathiazole 0.4g, Neomycin sulfate 0.1g.

Excipients

Vaseline oil, White petrolatum, White wax.

Directions for use and dosage

Ointment: Apply a thin layer of ointment 2-3 times a day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Warnings

Streptosil with Neomycin is not for ophthalmic use; it is indicated for external use only. The application of Streptosil with Neomycin to extensive and deeply damaged skin, such as skin infections secondary to extensive burns and trophic ulcers, could favor the systemic absorption of its active ingredients, exposing patients to serious side effects, such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
The medicine should not be used in ear canal infections in cases of perforation of the eardrum since in these cases the topical use of neomycin may cause serious side effects. cause deafness.
As with other aminoglycosides, the simultaneous and/or sequential systemic or topical administration of other nephrotoxic drugs should be avoided.
Duration of treatment: The use, especially if prolonged, of topical products may give rise to sensitization phenomena.
As with other antibiotics, prolonged use of neomycin may lead to the development of resistant microorganisms, including fungi.
If this occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.
After a short period of treatment without appreciable results, or in case of worsening of the patient's condition, treatment discontinuation should be considered.
Paediatric population: In early childhood, the product should be administered only when strictly necessary, under the direct supervision of a doctor.
The application of neomycin on large areas of skin and for prolonged periods can lead to systemic absorption; this is more likely to occur when occlusive dressings are used, particularly in newborns, since the diaper can act as an occlusive dressing.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to one of the components.

Interactions

Topical neomycin has demonstrated cross-sensitivity with other aminoglycosides; the concomitant administration of another aminoglycoside, especially systemically, is not recommended due to potential ototoxic and nephrotoxic effects.
Topical application of sulphathiazole can cause systemic absorption. give rise to sensitization and preclude subsequent systemic use of sulphonamides.

Undesirable effects

Following the use of Streptosil with Neomycin, the following undesirable effects may occur.

Overdose

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy The safety of topical use of sulphonamides or neomycin during pregnancy has not been established. In pregnant women, the product should be administered only when strictly necessary, under the direct supervision of a doctor.
Breastfeeding There are no adequate studies available to evaluate the effects in women during breastfeeding and to determine the risk to infants.
The product should be used in breastfeeding women only if strictly necessary, under the direct supervision of a doctor.
Fertility No studies have been conducted to evaluate the effects on fertility in humans.
