Warnings and precautions
In patients with cardiovascular disease, especially hypertensive patients, the use of nasal decongestants should be subject to the doctor's judgment on a case-by-case basis. Benzalkonium chloride (BAC), contained as a preservative in Rino Calyptol, especially when used for long periods, can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa. If this reaction is suspected (persistent nasal congestion), a nasal medicine without BAC should be used, if possible. If such nasal medicines without BAC are not available, another pharmaceutical form should be considered. May cause bronchospasm. Prolonged use of vasoconstrictors can alter the normal function of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, also leading to drug addiction. Repeated applications for long periods may be harmful. During the first months of pregnancy and due to the risk of urinary retention in the elderly, the product should be used only after consulting a doctor. Use of topical products, especially if prolonged, may cause sensitization; in this case, it is necessary to discontinue treatment and initiate appropriate therapy. However, if a complete therapeutic response is not achieved within a few days, consult a doctor; in any case, treatment should not be continued for more than 4 days. Scrupulously adhere to the recommended doses. If accidentally ingested or if used for a long time in excessive doses, the product may cause toxicity. It should be kept out of reach of children, as accidental ingestion may cause severe sedation. It should not be used orally. Avoid contact with eyes.
Interactions
Do not combine with antidepressant drugs.
Side effects
The product may cause local sensitization and mucosal congestion due to rebound effects. Rapid absorption of oxymetazoline through inflamed mucosa may cause systemic effects, including arterial hypertension, reflex bradycardia, headache, and urination disorders.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The product can be used during the first months of pregnancy only after consulting your doctor.
