Composition:
Each lozenge contains: - DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMHYDRATE (adsorbed on magnesium trisilicate): 10 mg - 2,4-DICHLOROBENZYL ALCOHOL: 1.2 mg For excipients, see 6.1
Excipients
Freshflavor, ammonium glycyrrhizinate, magnesium stearate, aspartame, compressible sugar.
Therapeutic indications
Cough sedative and antiseptic of the oropharyngeal cavity.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the Excipients. Bronchial asthma, COPD, pneumonia, difficulty breathing, respiratory depression, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, gastrointestinal and urogenital tract stenosis, epilepsy, severe liver disease. Do not administer to children under 12 years of age. Do not use concurrently with, or within two weeks of, treatment with MAOI antidepressants. Since the product contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, it is contraindicated in patients with phenylketonuria; it also contains sugar and is therefore contraindicated in cases of hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome, and sucrase/isomaltase deficiency. Pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, breastfeeding (see Section 4.6).
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years: slowly dissolve one lozenge in the mouth every 2-3 hours, up to a maximum of 8 lozenges per day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Warnings and precautions
In case of irritating cough with significant mucus production, treatment with Neo Borocillina® Tosse lozenges as a cough sedative should be administered with particular caution and only on medical advice. Administer with caution to subjects with impaired liver function. If in doubt, consult your doctor. The use, especially if prolonged, of topical products may give rise to sensitization phenomena. In this case, it is necessary to discontinue treatment and consult your doctor in order to establish any appropriate therapy. After 5-7 days of treatment without noticeable results, consult your doctor. The product contains sugar; this should be taken into account in cases of diabetes or low-calorie diets. The product contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine (see Section 4.3). Alcohol consumption is inadvisable during therapy. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
Interactions
Concomitant treatment with MAO inhibitors can cause serious effects on the central nervous system: e.g., excitation, high fever, alterations in respiratory and circulatory functions. Concomitant administration of drugs with an inhibitory effect on the central nervous system such as hypnotics, sedatives, or anxiolytics, or alcohol consumption, may lead to additive effects. Do not use concomitantly with or in the weeks following treatment with antidepressants.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal disturbances and respiratory depression, allergic skin rash, and decreased appetite may occur. Even if the drug is taken at the recommended doses, the ability to drive and use machines may be impaired, especially when taken with alcohol or other drugs that can reduce reaction times. Cases of abuse and dependence on dextromethorphan have been reported.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Neo Borocillina® Cough Pastilles should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy; in the following months, the drug should be administered only if strictly necessary and under the direct supervision of a doctor. Since the excretion of the drug in breast milk is unknown, Neo Borocillina® should not be used during the first three months of pregnancy. Cough lozenges are contraindicated during breastfeeding.
