Strictly adhere to the recommended doses. A higher dosage of the product, even if taken topically and for a short period of time, can result in serious systemic effects. If a complete therapeutic response is not achieved within a few days, consult your doctor; in any case, treatment should not be continued for more than a week.
Use with caution in the elderly and in those with prostatic hypertrophy due to the risk of urinary retention. In patients with cardiovascular disease, especially hypertensive patients, the use of nasal decongestants should be subject to the doctor's judgment on a case-by-case basis. Prolonged use of vasoconstrictors can alter the normal function of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, also leading to drug addiction. Repeated applications for a long period of time may be harmful. Benzalkonium chloride (BAC), a preservative contained in Nazar Nasal Spray, especially when used for long periods, can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa. If this reaction is suspected (persistent nasal congestion), a nasal medicine without BAC should be used, if possible. If such nasal medicines without BAC are not available, another pharmaceutical form should be considered. It can cause bronchospasm. Use of topical products, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena; in this case, treatment should be discontinued and, if necessary, appropriate therapy instituted. Rare cases of posterior reversible encephalopathy/reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome have been reported with the use of sympathomimetic drugs, which include naphazoline. Reported symptoms include sudden onset of severe headache, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances. Most cases improve or resolve within a few days following appropriate treatment. Naphazoline should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be consulted if signs and/or symptoms of posterior reversible encephalopathy/reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome occur.
