Mucolytics can induce bronchial obstruction in children under 2 years of age. In fact, the capacity to drain bronchial mucus is limited in this age group, due to the physiological characteristics of the airways. They should therefore not be used in children under 2 years of age. The increase in sputum, which is observed from the first days and demonstrates the lysis of pathological secretions, rapidly subsides. Contains sucrose. There are no particular precautions for use in the various pharmaceutical forms.
Children under 2 years of age. Gastrointestinal ulcer. Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Digestive phenomena may occur: gastralgia, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea. In this case, it is necessary to reduce the dosage. Bronchial obstruction: frequency unknown.
No cases of acute carbocisteine poisoning have ever been reported. Symptoms may affect the gastrointestinal tract. Removal of the toxicant: induce vomiting and possibly perform gastric lavage.
No data have emerged that could contraindicate the use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, as a precaution, its use is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy, while it should be used under medical supervision and only if necessary during the rest of the pregnancy.
