Indications
Mucolytic, fluidifying in acute and chronic respiratory tract conditions.
Composition
MUCOTREIS 20 mg/ml syrup for children 1 ml contains:
Active ingredient: carbocysteine 20 mg
Excipients:20 mg/ml syrup sodium hydroxide, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium chloride, caramel flavoring, sucrose, sweet orange essence, purified water.
Directions for use and Dosage
Children under five years: 1 teaspoon 1–2 times a day.
Children over 5 years: 1 teaspoon 2–3 times a day depending on age.
Warnings
The increase in sputum, which is observed from the first few days and demonstrates the lysis of pathological secretions, rapidly subsides. The product contains sucrose; take this into account in cases of diabetes or low-calorie diets. Clinical trials have shown that there are no particular precautions for the use of Mucotreis in the various pharmaceutical forms.
Contraindications
Gastrointestinal ulcer. Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in paragraph 6.1.
Side effects
Digestive phenomena may occur: gastralgia, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea. In this case, it is necessary to reduce the dosage.
Overdose
No cases of acute carbocisteine poisoning have ever been reported. Symptoms may affect the gastrointestinal tract. Removal of the toxic substance: induce vomiting and, if necessary, perform gastric lavage.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Based on preclinical studies, no data have emerged that could contraindicate the use of Mucotreis during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, as a precaution, its use is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy, while it should be used under medical supervision and only if necessary during the rest of the pregnancy.
