Oral stick
Magnesium deficiency states.
Active ingredients
One sachet contains: magnesium pidolate 2.250 g (corresponding to 184 mg of Mg++ ion).
Excipients
Granules for oral solution: sodium saccharin, citric acid monohydrate, sucrose, lemon flavoring.
For adults only: 3 vials or 2 sachets of granules per day. In children, the dosage may be established by a doctor after consultation. Caution: Use only for short-term treatment.
In patients with renal insufficiency, it is necessary to reduce the dosage and monitor renal function and magnesium levels. It is advisable to consider the possibility of cardiovascular and respiratory depression during treatment. Each vial contains 3.5 g of sucrose. Each sachet contains 2.985 g of sucrose. If taken according to the recommended dose, the daily intake of sucrose corresponds to 10.5 g for the vials and 5.97 g for the sachets. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. The oral solution contains p-hydroxybenzoates: they can cause allergic reactions (even delayed) and, exceptionally, bronchospasm.
Contraindications/Side effects
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min). Not to be administered to patients undergoing digitalis therapy.
Rare digestive disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain. Exceptional cases of individual intolerance to magnesium have been reported, which can be treated with oral or parenteral antihistamines.
Interactions
Oral administration of magnesium can result in reduced absorption of tetracyclines, therefore it is recommended not to administer the drug simultaneously with tetracycline-based drugs, but to keep at least 3-4 hours apart between the two administrations. Quinolones should be administered at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after magnesium-based products to avoid interference with their absorption. If magnesium-based products and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) are administered concomitantly, monitoring serum calcium levels is recommended to avoid the possible onset of hypercalcemia. Concomitant use of preparations containing calcium or phosphate salts is not recommended, as these products prevent magnesium absorption. Concomitant use of magnesium-based products with central nervous system depressant drugs can potentiate the CNS effects of magnesium and should be carefully evaluated.
It is advisable to take the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding under medical supervision and only when strictly necessary. Magnesium is considered compatible with breastfeeding.
Storage
