Product Description

Syrup for the symptomatic treatment of cough.

Indications

Levotuss 60mg/10ml Syrup is an antitussive, excluding combinations with expectorants.

Composition

Active ingredients: One 10ml sachet of syrup contains 60mg of levodropropizine.

Excipients: Sucrose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate. For a full list of excipients, see section 6.1. Excipients: Sucrose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, cherry flavoring, purified water.

Directions for use and dosage

Adults and children over 30 kg: One sachet containing 10 ml of syrup up to 3 times daily at intervals of at least 6 hours. Treatment should be continued until the cough is relieved. However, if the cough persists after 2 weeks of treatment, it is advisable to discontinue treatment and consult a doctor. Cough is a symptom, and the underlying condition should be investigated and treated. Open the sachet along the dotted line and swallow the contents. Do not administer to children under 2 years of age.

Warnings

The observation that the pharmacokinetic profiles of levodropropizine are not markedly altered in the elderly suggests that dose adjustments or changes in the intervals between doses may not be required in the elderly. However, given the evidence that sensitivity to various drugs is altered in the elderly, special caution should be used when levodropropizine is administered to elderly patients. Caution is advised in patients with severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance below 35 ml/min). Caution is also advised when taking sedative drugs concomitantly in particularly sensitive individuals (see 4.5). This medicine contains 4 g of sucrose per dose (10 ml): patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. To be taken into consideration when administering to patients with diabetes mellitus. The medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, which are known to cause urticaria. In general, parahydroxybenzoates can cause delayed reactions, such as contact dermatitis, and rarely, immediate reactions with urticaria and bronchospasm. Antitussives are symptomatic and should be used only while awaiting diagnosis of the underlying cause and/or treatment of the underlying condition. In the absence of information on the effect of food intake on drug absorption, it is advisable to take the medicine between meals. Levotuss syrup does not contain gluten; therefore, it can be administered to patients with celiac disease.

Contraindications and side effects

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Administration of the drug should be avoided in patients with bronchorrhea and reduced mucociliary function (Kartagener's syndrome, ciliary dyskinesia). Do not administer to children under 2 years of age.
