Dompé Levotuss 30mg/5ml Cough Sedative
Levotuss Syrup is used for the symptomatic treatment of cough.
Dosage and Directions for Use
The Levotuss Syrup package includes a measuring cup with graduations corresponding to 3, 5, and 10 ml. To open the package, press the cap firmly and simultaneously turn counterclockwise.
- Adults: one tablet up to 3 times a day at intervals of at least 6 hours.
Treatment should be continued until the cough disappears or as prescribed by your doctor. However, if cough is still present after 2 weeks of therapy, it is advisable to discontinue treatment and seek medical advice. Cough is a symptom, and the underlying condition should be investigated and treated.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Administration of the drug should be avoided in patients with bronchorrhea and reduced mucociliary function (Kartagener's syndrome, ciliary dyskinesia).
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Special warnings
The observation that the pharmacokinetic profiles of levodropropizine are not markedly altered in the elderly suggests that dose adjustments or modifications of the intervals between doses may not be required in older adults. However, given the evidence that elderly patients have altered sensitivity to various drugs, special caution should be exercised when administering levodropropizine to elderly patients.
Caution is advised in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 35 ml/min). Caution is also advised when particularly sensitive individuals are taking sedative medications concomitantly. This medicine contains lactose: patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
Antitussive drugs are symptomatic and should be used only while awaiting diagnosis of the underlying cause and/or treatment of the underlying condition.
In the absence of information on the effect of food intake on drug absorption, it is advisable to take the medicine without meals.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Teratogenicity, reproduction, and fertility studies, as well as peri- and postnatal studies, have not revealed any specific toxic effects. However, because animal toxicology studies at a dose of 24 mg/kg showed a slight delay in body weight gain and growth, and because levodropropizine is able to cross the placental barrier in rats, the drug is contraindicated in women who intend to become pregnant or are already pregnant, as its safety has not been documented.
Studies in rats indicate that the drug is found in breast milk for up to 8 hours after administration. Therefore, use of the drug during breastfeeding is contraindicated.
