Product Description

 Composition:

Each sachet contains: active ingredients: paracetamol 600 mg, ascorbic acid 40 mg, and phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 mg.

Excipients

Sucrose, anhydrous citric acid, sodium citrate, corn starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium cyclamate, sodium saccharin, lemon flavoring, honey flavoring, caramel flavoring.

Therapeutic indications

Symptomatic treatment of influenza, colds, and related feverish and painful conditions, with a decongestant effect on the upper respiratory tract.

Contraindications

Children under 12 years of age. Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients. Patients taking beta-blockers, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants. Patients with renal insufficiency, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: 1 sachet every 4–6 hours and up to a maximum of 3 sachets in 24 hours. Dissolve 1 sachet in half a glass of very hot water and, if desired, dilute with cold water to cool and sweeten as desired.

Warnings and Precautions

During treatment with paracetamol, before taking any other medication, check that it does not contain the same active ingredient, as taking high doses of paracetamol can cause serious adverse reactions. Paracetamol-based products should be administered with caution to patients with mild to moderate hepatocellular insufficiency (including Gilbert's syndrome), severe hepatic insufficiency, acute hepatitis, concomitant treatment with drugs that alter liver function, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or hemolytic anemia. Instruct the patient to contact their doctor before combining any other medication (see also section 4.5). Use of the product is not recommended if the patient is being treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not administer for more than 3 consecutive days without consulting a doctor. KOKIDEC contains sucrose: patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.

Interactions

The hepatotoxic effect of paracetamol may be potentiated by the use of other drugs that affect the liver. Use with extreme caution and under close supervision during chronic treatment with drugs that can induce hepatic monooxygenase activity or in case of exposure to substances that can have this effect (for example, rifampicin, cimetidine, antiepileptics such as glutethimide, phenobarbital, carbamazepine). Paracetamol increases the half-life of chloramphenicol. The product taken in high doses can enhance the effect of coumarin anticoagulants. Phenylephrine can antagonize the effect of beta-blockers and antihypertensives and can enhance the action of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Interference with some laboratory tests. Paracetamol administration may interfere with the determination of uric acid levels (using the phosphotungstic acid method) and blood glucose levels (using the glucose-oxidase-peroxidase method).

Side Effects

Skin reactions of various types and severity have been reported with the use of paracetamol, including cases of erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and epidermal necrolysis. Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema, laryngeal edema, and anaphylactic shock have been reported. The following side effects have also been reported: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia, agranulocytosis, liver function abnormalities and hepatitis, renal abnormalities (acute renal failure, interstitial nephritis, hematuria, anuria), gastrointestinal reactions, and dizziness. Sympathomimetics (phenylephrine) may occasionally cause skin irritation, tachycardia, hypertension, and, much more rarely, nausea, vomiting, or anorexia.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy is not contraindicated, but caution is advised; administration during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be under the direct supervision of a physician and only when strictly necessary.
