Product Description

Antihistamine medicine containing fexofenadine hydrochloride, indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older.

Indications

Fexallegra is a medicine administered by mouth that contains fexofenadine hydrochloride, a substance with antihistamine action, used to treat some forms of allergy.

Fexallegra 120 mg is used in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older to treat irritation or inflammation of the nasal mucosa caused by seasonal allergies (seasonal allergic rhinitis). This medicine relieves the symptoms caused by this allergy, such as sneezing, itchy nose, runny or stuffy nose, and eye irritation (redness and watery eyes).

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription.

Medicines containing aluminum and magnesium used to combat excessive stomach acid (antacids) may reduce the effect of Fexallegra by reducing the amount of medicine absorbed. It is recommended to observe an interval of approximately 2 hours between taking Fexallegra and this category of medicines.

An increase in the absorption of Fexallegra has been shown when administered simultaneously with erythromycin (an antibiotic) and ketoconazole (a medicine used to treat fungal infections).

Warnings

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fexallegra.

Take special care if:

• you suffer from liver or kidney problems; in particular if you suffer from severe kidney problems (severe renal failure), you may be at increased risk of developing Fexallegra. take this medicine only under medical supervision;
• you suffer or have suffered from heart or blood circulation diseases, as this type of medicine can cause a rapid or irregular heartbeat;
• you are an elderly person.

This medicine should not be taken by children under 12 years of age.

Contraindications

Do not take Fexallegra:

• if you are allergic to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause serious side effects. cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Tell your doctor immediately and stop taking Fexallegra if you experience:

• swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty breathing, as this may cause side effects. These signs may be indicative of a serious allergic reaction.

The following side effects have been reported in clinical trials in adults and with a frequency similar to that observed in patients who did not receive the drug (placebo):

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

• headache,
• drowsiness,
• feeling sick (nausea),
• dizziness.

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)

• tiredness.

The following side effects have been reported in post-marketing surveillance:

Frequency not known (the frequency is not known) (can be defined on the basis of available data)

• difficulty falling asleep (insomnia),
• sleep disturbances,
• nightmares,
• nervousness,
• rapid or irregular heartbeat,
• diarrhea,
• skin abnormalities (rash), even with small bumps and itching (hives),
• severe allergic reactions which may cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty breathing.
