Medical device useful in cases of keratosis
Decapan 30 is a keratolytic ointment containing 30% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a fat-soluble substance that mixes with the lipids of the stratum corneum and the sebaceous glands of the hair follicles and is able to remove them.
Salicylic acid is also able to alter the desmosomes (intercellular junctions of the corneocytes), reducing cell cohesion and causing an exfoliating effect. It therefore has keratolytic and comedolytic properties. Furthermore, thanks to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins, it has anti-inflammatory properties.
