Keratolytic Ointment
Decapan 20 is a keratolytic ointment containing 20% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a fat-soluble substance that mixes with the lipids in the stratum corneum and sebaceous glands of hair follicles and is able to remove them. Salicylic acid is also able to alter desmosomes (intercellular junctions of corneocytes), reducing cell cohesion and causing an exfoliating effect. It therefore has keratolytic and comedolytic properties. Furthermore, thanks to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins, it has anti-inflammatory properties.
Decapan 20 Ointment contains 20% salicylic acid.
