Skin solution for disinfecting and cleaning broken skin.

Indications

Betadine® is a practical antiseptic solution for the treatment of minor wounds and skin infections. The active ingredient in Betadine®, Povidone-Iodine (10% Iodine), is active against Gram + and Gram - bacteria, fungi, protozoa, yeasts, and some viruses.

Povidone-Iodine has the advantage over elemental iodine of being water-soluble and less irritating and well-tolerated by the skin and mucous membranes. Applied to the skin, it forms a protective film that contributes to its antiseptic action.

Composition

Active ingredients

Povidone iodine (10% iodine) 10 g.

Excipients

Glycerol, Macrogol lauryl ether, Disodium phosphate dihydrate, Citric acid monohydrate, Sodium hydroxide, Purified water.

Directions for use and dosage

Apply twice daily directly to small wounds and skin infections. A 5 ml amount of solution (containing 50 mg of iodine) is sufficient to treat an area approximately 15 cm on each side.

Skin antisepsis: Apply a protective layer of the brown solution until a medium-intensity color is achieved; a non-staining film forms on the surface.

Warnings

• Do not use for prolonged treatments. Use, especially if prolonged, may cause sensitization. In this case, discontinue treatment and adopt appropriate therapeutic measures.
• After a short period of treatment without noticeable results, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
• For external use only.
• Stop treatment at least 10 days before undergoing a radioactive iodine scintigraphy.
• Avoid use on mucous membranes.
• If used for prolonged periods on large body surfaces or under occlusive dressings, particularly in children and patients with thyroid disorders, perform thyroid function tests.
• In pediatric patients, use only when clearly needed and under medical supervision.
• Accidental ingestion or inhalation of some disinfectants can have serious, sometimes fatal, consequences.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
• It is recommended not to exceed 2 applications per day and to avoid the simultaneous use of other antiseptics and detergents.
• Do not use soaps or ointments containing mercury or benzoin compounds on the treated area at the same time.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components.
Use with caution in patients with thyroid disorders.
Do not use in children under six months of age.

Side effects

In some cases, burning or irritation may occur; in this case, discontinue treatment.
The reaction of iodine with damaged tissue may delay healing. May interfere with thyroid function tests.
