Product Description

Medicated plaster useful in case of muscle pain.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of muscle pain such as lumbago.

Composition

Active ingredients

One medicated plaster contains: active ingredient: 96.5 mg of refined and titrated Capsicum oleoresin, from dried ripe fruits of Capsicum annuum L. var. minimum Miller (Heiser) or Capsicum frutescens L. small-fruited variety, corresponding to 12.2 mg (32 mcg/cm²) of capsaicinoids expressed as capsaicin. Extraction solvent: ethanol minimum 90% V/V. For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1.

Excipients

Arnica essence, olibanum, natural gum, iron oxide, staybelite resin, staybelite ester 3, Hercolin, iris rhizome, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, 2,2' methylene-bis-(4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol), castor oil (excipient of the herbal preparation).

Directions for use and dosage

Dosage Adults: The recommended dose is 1 medicated plaster per day to be applied to the affected area and maintained for at least 4-12 hours. An interval of at least 12 hours must elapse before applying a new plaster to the same application area. Do not exceed the maximum recommended daily dose.
Paediatric population: The safety and efficacy of Cerotto Bertelli in children and adolescents have not been established. No data are available. Method of administration: Cutaneous use: Apply to dry skin and massage in gently. Duration of treatment: Use for a short period. Prolonged use should be determined after appropriate clinical evaluation.

Warnings

It is recommended to remove Cerotto Bertelli using a cotton ball soaked in warm water or olive oil. The medicine should not be applied near the eyes or on mucous membranes. During treatment, the application of additional heat sources (e.g., solar or infrared radiation, heating pad, or hot water) should be avoided. The effect of the heat can also be intensified by physical activity (sweating). Treatment should be discontinued if the heat effect becomes excessive. In this case, the patch should be removed. If symptoms worsen while using the medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to other sources of capsaicinoids (e.g., pepper or chili pepper plants). Damaged skin, wounds, and eczema.

Side effects

Use of the topical product, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena. The active ingredient causes an increase in local blood circulation with marked redness of the skin and a sensation of heat. This reaction is part of the normal pharmacological action of the preparation and generally subsides shortly after removal of the patch. In rare cases (≈1/10,000, <1/1,000): skin hypersensitivity and allergic reactions (e.g., hives, vesicles, and blistering at the application site) may occur. In these cases, treatment must be discontinued immediately. Especially during the first few days of treatment, a sensation of irritation or itching may occur. If, in individual cases, the adverse effects experienced are excessive, treatment should be discontinued. Reporting of suspected adverse reactionsReporting suspected adverse reactions that occur after authorization of the medicinal product is important, as it allows continuous monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product.

Overdose

A relative overdose may be due to inappropriate use of the preparation, which can cause local irritation requiring suspension of the drug and a general anti-inflammatory treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

There are no contraindications to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are no data on use in pregnant women. Breastfeeding Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity after high subcutaneous doses of capsaicin. Capsaicin crosses the placenta and may pass into breast milk. Although prenatal and neonatal effects have occurred at doses exceeding the maximum clinical dose of the patch, the patch should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only after careful consideration of the risk-benefit ratio. Fertility: No data on fertility are available.
