Indications

Azulene is an eye drop based on 0.3% long-chain hyaluronic acid and 0.1% EDTA. It lubricates and hydrates the ocular surface and is particularly indicated for dry eyes and when the ocular surface is damaged. This is because the high concentration of hyaluronic acid, as demonstrated by numerous clinical studies, promotes the re-epithelialization of the damaged corneal epithelium. Furthermore, the long chain prevents the formation of pro-inflammatory hyaluronic acid particles and enhances its lubricating action during blinking. Thanks to its extremely high capacity to incorporate water molecules, hyaluronic acid helps replenish and stabilize the tear film.
EDTA acts as a chelator and is useful in all corneal diseases caused by foreign bodies, especially alkaline cations. For this reason, it is particularly indicated for ocular surface diseases due to air pollution and fine dust. It also has the ability to reduce tear osmolarity, which is inherently high in dry eye, increasing the bioavailability of water in the tear film.
