Antiseptic and nasal decongestant.
Argotone 1% + 0.9% contains the active ingredients vitellinate silver, responsible for the antiseptic action, and ephedrine hydrochloride, responsible for the nasal decongestant action, and belongs to the group of nasal decongestant medicines for topical (local) use.
Argotone 1% + 0.9%, therefore, acts as an antiseptic and nasal decongestant.
Active ingredients: 100 ml of solution contain 1.0 g of vitellinate silver and 0.9 g of ephedrine hydrochloride.
Excipients: sodium chloride, purified water, anhydrous sodium thiosulfate.
For adults and children over 12 years of age, the recommended dose is 3 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Argotone can also be administered by aerosol with good results.
In patients with cardiovascular disease, and especially in hypertensive patients, the use of nasal decongestants should be subject to the doctor's judgment on a case-by-case basis.
Cardiovascular effects may be observed with the use of sympathomimetic drugs, such as Argotone.
There is some evidence, from post-marketing data and published literature, of rare cases of myocardial ischemia in association with the use of beta agonists.
Patients with pre-existing serious cardiac disease (e.g. ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia or severe heart failure) who take Argotone should be advised to contact their doctor. Doctors should consult their doctor if they experience chest pain or other symptoms of worsening heart disease.
Attention should be paid to the evaluation of symptoms such as dyspnea and chest pain, as they may be of either respiratory or cardiac origin.
Prolonged use of vasoconstrictors can alter the normal function of the nasal and paranasal sinus mucosa, also leading to drug addiction.
Repeated applications for long periods may therefore be harmful.
Use with caution in diabetics and, due to the risk of urinary retention, in the elderly.
Use of topical products, especially if prolonged, may give rise to sensitization phenomena; in this case, it is necessary to discontinue treatment and, if necessary, institute appropriate therapy.
However, if a complete therapeutic response is not seen within a few days, consult your doctor; In any case, treatment should not be continued for more than a week.
Scrupulously adhere to the recommended doses.
If accidentally ingested or if used for a long period at excessive doses, the medicine can cause toxic phenomena.
It should be kept out of reach of children.
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients, to sympathomimetic amines in general or to any of the excipients, heart disease and severe arterial hypertension.
Glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, hyperthyroidism.
Do not administer during or within two weeks of therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Ephedrine reduces the plasma half-life of corticosteroids.
The medicine may cause local rebound sensitization or congestion of the mucous membranes.
Especially with high-dose or prolonged treatments beyond the recommended limit, ephedrine absorbed through the inflamed mucous membranes and the digestive mucosa can cause systemic effects consisting, in general, of tachycardia, hypertension, headache, urinary disorders, insomnia, restlessness.
In case of overdose (e.g. accidental oral intake), central depression and sedation may appear in children, or episodes of excitement with agitation, hypertensive crises, and facial congestion.
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, or if you are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
It is advisable not to use the medicine during pregnancy for prolonged periods.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton.
