Drug indicated for the symptomatic treatment of androgenic alopecia.

Indications

Aloxidil by Idi Farmaceutici is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of androgenic alopecia. Its efficacy has not been established in the following forms: localized or generalized congenital alopecia; cicatricial alopecia of various kinds (post-traumatic, psychological or infectious origin); acute diffuse alopecia caused by toxic substances, by medications in which hair regrowth is conditioned by the suppression of the specific cause; area celsi. Furthermore, tolerability and efficacy have not been established in patients under 18 years of age and in patients over 55 years of age.

Composition

Active ingredients

1 ml of cutaneous solution contains: Active ingredient: Minoxidil 20 mg Excipients with known effects: propylene glycol, ethanol.

Ethyl alcohol 51.40 g Propylene glycol 20.72 g Purified water to 100 ml

Directions for use and Dosage

Cutaneous use. Use this medicine only on the scalp and no other parts of the body. The recommended dose is 1 ml, twice a day, applied to the areas affected by baldness, starting from the center. The dose is independent of the size of the area to be treated. The daily dose should not exceed 2 ml.

Using the dropper: Fill the dropper to the 1 ml mark. Then apply a few drops of Aloxidil to the scalp, distributing the liquid by rubbing it with your fingertips over the entire balding area. Repeat until the entire dose in the dropper has been applied. Close the bottle tightly. After applying Aloxidil, wash your hands by rinsing thoroughly with water. Apply Aloxidil only to completely dry hair and scalp. Do not apply Aloxidil to other areas of the body. Do not use a hair dryer to facilitate drying of Aloxidil, as this may reduce the product's effect. Treatment lasting 3-4 months with two applications per day may be necessary before there are visible signs of hair growth. The onset of these signs and their intensity vary from patient to patient. In all cases, the doctor will have to evaluate the opportunity to suspend treatment if no therapeutic results are observed within this period.

Warnings

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Aloxidil. Take special care with Aloxidil:

• In case of accidental contact with sensitive surfaces (eyes, skin abrasions, mucous membranes), Aloxidil
  can cause burning and irritation. Therefore, the affected area must be washed with plenty of fresh water;
• In case of accidental ingestion of the solution: accidental ingestion can cause serious eye problems. cause serious side effects;
• If you experience systemic effects as minoxidil can be absorbed through the scalp and cause effects on all organs such as tachycardia (increased heart rate), angina (pain behind the chest due to closure of the heart arteries), edema (swelling due to fluid accumulation), pericarditis (inflammation of the membrane that covers the heart on the outside), pericardial effusion, cardiac tamponade (compression of the heart by this fluid) or increased orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing up) from antihypertensive drugs such as guanethidine and derivatives. You must be periodically monitored to detect any suspicion of systemic effects caused by minoxidil.
• If you suffer from latent cardiac disorders, Aloxidil may worsen these disorders.
• If you suffer from concomitant skin diseases, or if you are being treated with topical corticosteroid therapy (local cortisone, cortisone ointments) or other dermatological preparations. If you experience systemic (general) side effects or dermatological reactions, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor.
• If you suffer from localized congenital alopecia (congenital local hair loss) or generalized (hair loss all over the body); cicatricial alopecia (from disease or another cause healed with scarring) of various nature (post-traumatic, psychological or infectious origin); acute diffuse alopecia caused by toxic substances, by drugs in which hair regrowth is conditioned by the suppression of the specific cause (suspension of the drug); area celsi (hair loss at the nape of the neck, which may spread to the entire scalp), as the effectiveness of Aloxidil for these forms of alopecia has not been proven.

Do not take Aloxidil

• If you are allergic to minoxidil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
• If you suffer from coronary heart disease (problems with the coronary arteries), arrhythmia (altered heart rhythm), congestive heart failure (a condition in which the heart cannot supply an adequate amount of blood to the body) or valvular heart disease (diseases affecting the heart valves). In the case of other cardiovascular problems, the use of Aloxidil is subject to the doctor's judgment. If you suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure), your doctor will assess whether treatment with this medicine is suitable for you and will monitor you closely.

Children and adolescents

The safety and efficacy of Aloxidil in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been studied.

Contraindications

Aloxidil is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1. Aloxidil must not be used in the presence of coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure or valvular disease. In the presence of other cardiovascular disorders, the use of Aloxidil is subject to the doctor's judgment. Patients with hypertension, including those being treated for this condition, must be kept under close medical supervision.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor immediately as you may need urgent medical treatment.

• Swelling of the face, lips or throat which may cause difficulty swallowing or breathing. This could be a sign of a serious allergic reaction (frequency not known, cannot be estimated from the available data).

The most frequent side effects are minor dermatological reactions on the skin.

Local irritation is common, consisting of scaling, erythema (skin redness), dermatitis (skin inflammation), dry skin, hypertrichosis (excessive growth of hair) (in areas other than those treated with Aloxidil), burning sensation, and rash. Other side effects that have occurred infrequently include: allergic reactions (sensitivity, hives, generalized erythema, and facial swelling), dizziness, tingling, headache, weakness, neuritis (inflammation of the nerves), edema (swelling due to fluid retention), eye irritation, taste disturbance, ear infections (particularly otitis externa, inflammation of the external ear), and vision disturbances. Side effects that have occurred rarely include hair abnormalities, chest pain, changes in blood pressure, changes in heart rate, hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), and kidney stones.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Do not use Aloxidil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
