Symptomatic treatment of cough and congestive conditions of the upper respiratory tract, particularly those caused by allergies.
Active ingredients: 100 ml of syrup contain: Active ingredients: Triprolidine hydrochloride 0.025 g; pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 0.600 g; dextromethorphan hydrobromide 0.200 g.
Excipients: Non-crystallizing sorbitol (70%); sucrose; sodium benzoate; methyl parahydroxybenzoate; ponceau 4r (e124); ethanol; blackberry flavouring; menthol; vanillin; Purified water.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients, to other antihistamines, or to any of the excipients. The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, during pregnancy, breastfeeding, in patients being treated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within two weeks of such treatment, and in the treatment of lower respiratory tract diseases, including bronchial asthma. Due to its anticholinergic effects, do not use in cases of glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction, pyloric and duodenal stenosis, or stenosis of other parts of the gastrointestinal and urogenital tract. It is also contraindicated in cardiovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, hyperthyroidism, as well as epilepsy and diabetes. Dextromethorphan, like other central cough suppressants, is contraindicated in patients who have or may develop respiratory failure.
Dosage: The package includes a double-spoon measuring cup with a capacity of 2.5 and 5 ml. Adults and children over 12 years: one 10 ml dose of syrup 2 or 3 times a day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Warnings and precautions: If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if high fever or other side effects occur, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor. At common therapeutic doses, antihistamines have side effects that vary greatly from person to person and from compound to compound. Consult your doctor to determine the dose for the elderly due to their greater sensitivity to antihistamines and pseudoephedrine. The product contains sucrose, which is why it is important to consult your doctor before use. should be taken into account in case of low-calorie diets. The syrup contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate: it can generally cause delayed allergic reactions such as dermatitis; rarely, immediate reactions with urticaria and bronchospasm. Although pseudoephedrine has not produced significant effects on blood pressure in normotensive subjects, Actifed Compound should not be taken by patients undergoing therapy with antihypertensives, tricyclic antidepressants, sympathomimetic agents, such as decongestants, appetite suppressants, amphetamine-like drugs. Actifed Compound should also not be used by patients with severe kidney or liver disease. Keep the medicine out of the reach and sight of children. For those who participate in sports, the use of medicines containing ethyl alcohol may cause positive doping tests in relation to the blood alcohol concentration limits indicated by some sports federations.
Interactions: The effects of antihistamines are made more severe by the use of antihistamines. evident from alcohol, hypnotics, sedatives, tranquilizers, and other substances with anticholinergic action or depressant effect on the central nervous system, which therefore should not be taken during therapy. Antihistamines can reduce the duration of action of oral anticoagulants. The use of antihistamines can mask the first signs of ototoxicity of certain antibiotics. Furazolidone causes a progressive inhibition of monoamine oxidase, therefore it should not be taken simultaneously with Actifed Compound. The effect of antihypertensives that interfere with sympathetic activity (e.g. methyldopa, alpha and beta blockers, debrisoquine, guanethidine, bethanidine and bretylium) can be partially canceled by Actifed Compound, which therefore, also in this case, should not be taken simultaneously.
Side effects: Actifed Compound can cause mainly drowsiness, then asthenia, dizziness, allergic skin rashes, photosensitivity, dry mouth, urinary retention, thickening of bronchial secretions, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, possibly reducible by administering the product after meals, CNS excitation, accompanied by insomnia, euphoria and tremors; very rarely blood changes and, especially in the elderly, headache, extrasystoles, tachycardia and hypotension.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Actifed Compound is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
